b°tong is Chris Sigdell, former member of Nid (German experimental sound-collective that existed from 1995 to 2005). b°tong reaches for the nether regions of experimental electronic sound. Born in the winter of 2004 b°tong has since appeared at renowned festivals (Sinus-Series, Ausklang Festival, SHIFT - festival for electronic art & music), on various radio stations, and toured extensively throughout Europe and the east coast of USA & Canada. b°tong is also interested in collaborating with other artists (Feine Trinkers Bei Pinkels Daheim, PS Stamps Back, Tamagawa), in partaking in installations (Polarkreis and 95° by Brigitte Gierlich & Camilla Schuler), or doing video-projects (Ulrich Fischer: Images). His video to Sphere II (from Polar:is CD) was shown at the 2007 Miami Art Fair as part of the Urban Nomad film-festival. The video to Black Dog Dream (from Structures CD), made together with video-artist Silvia Bergmann, was shown in Beijing Urban Nomad film-festival 2008.
b°tong's music varies from dark ambient layers of sound, brooding drones, itchy-scratchy tones to weird electronics or harsh noise. The sounds created give birth to images of darkness and tranquility, the solitude of an icy polar night, or the equivalent of an underwater journey in a bottomless pit! Welcome to the darker side of experimental histrionics!
b°tong deconstructs and recycles samples from television, radio and film, records natural and artificial sounds, and processes his own voice. Live, he uses microphones, sampler, and "instruments" such as: metal, spring, and... kitchen utensils. The sounds thus generated are run through various effect-pedals.
