Heralded by the NME as the UK’s answer to Kanye West and a hip-hop innovator, Bubbz has received critical acclaim and commendments from the likes of Mark Ronson. DJs known to have been playing Bubbz’s music include DJ’s Rob Da Bank and Ras Kwame (BBC Radio 1) as well as Kiss FM DJ MK.
A graduate of The Red Bull Music Academy, counting current UK chart topper Mr Hudson along with agency mate Goldielocks amongst his peers, Bubbz has had tour/performance dates with Scratch Perverts, Sway, and Mark Ronson.
Making music that can only be described as alternative rap, his music is a hybrid of the many influences he has grown up with. He cites some of his influences as :- Gyedu Blay, George Clinton, Prince, Michael Jackson, A.B Crentsil, Outkast, Lupe Fiasco, Heartless Crew, The Clash, David Bowie, Wookie, Tribe called Quest, Slum Village, E.T.Mensah,N.E.R.D, Bob Marley and De La Soul. As bizarre as it seems, Bubbz can boast to be the only rapper ever nominated for BBC Radio 2 Folk award in the category of ‘best traditional track’ for his work with controversial artist Jim Moray.
Bubbz describes himself as a ‘’hybrid kinda of guy, only striving for the best’’. Brought up in South London by his Mother- a sample machinist, and his Father a trained lawyer turned black cabbie, with several family members being tailors and dress makers, and pushed into the church choir as a child. It was only natural Bubbz would grow up to be the musician he is; experimental, bold and confident in his moves.
Bubbz is currently on course, this Autumn 2009, to release his EP 'HRS:MINS:SECs’, and his first commercial release 'Citizens of the City' followed by his album 'Marks on the Wall' next year 2010. Due for release on his own independent label, Drummerboy Records. Production credits include Manchester Duo Heavyfeet (Passenger), New York’s AC Slater (Trouble and Bass), UK’s Alex Sushon AKA Bok Bok (Night slugs/Discobelle/Trash Menagerie) and DJ Deekline (Rat Records), as well as Lee ‘Supertap’ Cole and of course the man himself – Bubbz (with features from Afrikan Boy and Blondtron).
