Hello. I'm Tony Buchen (also known as Buchman). I'm a record producer, mixer, arranger, recording artist and multi instrumentalist. I use a combination of vintage mics, outboard gear and analogue tape in conjunction with digital formats to draw the best of these worlds to make new music - whether it be psychadelic rock, soul, hip hop, roots reggae, folk, alt-country, doo wop, black metal ... All good music really.
As well as producing other artists, I have released albums with my band Baggsmen and as a solo artist under the moniker Buchman.
I usually work out of my own Brighton Boulevard Studio, Electric Avenue Studios and Studios 301 in Sydney, but also record and mix at lots of other studios including Sing Sing in Melbourne and Electric Lady in NYC.
Brighton Boulevard Studios is now located in a new dedicated studio space in Australia's leading recording and mixing facility Studios 301 in Alexandria, Sydney. My studio's control room and accompanying live room sound fantastic (even though there's no room due to the proliferation of gear...) and there's a great vibe with the Neve 88R and SSL K studios (including one of Australia's few orchestral recording spaces) running downstairs.
Some artists I've produced/mixed Earl Gray, Macromantics, Pigeon John, Abby Dobson, Rastawookie, Blue King Brown, Ray Mann Three, Baggsmen, Impossible Odds, The Whitlams, Sarah Blasko's Hamlet project, Kid Confucius. This year I've been working with some truly inspiring artists including Island Records recording artists Andy Bull and Gin Wigmore; The Kahn Brothers; producing and arranging some orchestral noir-soul with Sydney singer Donne and record no. 2 for Australia's hip hop nursery rhyme-nightmarist Macromantics; some demos with Little Red; writing with my old friend Lior; producing and playing with Split Enz/Crowded House legend Tim Finn; Indy kids on the rise Hungry Kids of Hungary and WIM. Finally check out the album project I've put together with Dereb Desalegn - an incredible Ethiopian singer I've completed an album with to revive the sounds of 1960s Addis Ababa soul music.
