In January 2006, writers and stand-up comedians Paul Bae and Charles Demers decided to form a two-person sketch comedy duo -- since then, Paul and Charlie have put audiences in stitches on both sides of the border, on-stage and over the radio, as well as participating in several high-profile festivals and sold-out shows.
Influences
The Smothers Brothers, SCTV, The Kids in the Hall, Codco, Lily Tomlin, Woody Allen, Marc Maron, Dave Chappelle, Mary Walsh, Mikhail Bulgakov, Philip Roth (well, the early stuff was pretty funny).
About me: Meet Bucket, Vancouver's premier bi-racial, bi-sizal sketch comedy duo. In January 2006, accomplished writers and stand-up comics Paul Bae and Charles Demers joined up to write and perform scathing, engaging sketch comedy with a cerebral twist that has had audiences on both sides of the border in stitches, and has the Georgia Straight's comedy critic lauding their "literate style." Who else has jokes about existentialism and testicles, all wrapped into one sketch?
Who I'd like to meet: You, in the audience at our next show.
Thanks for inviting us out to play. It was fun performing with you guys and getting to see (or at least hear from backstage) Jeff and Darryl's sets. (Although, when Jeff broke the gong I did wish it was being recorded for television rather than radio...)
Honored to know you two gentlemen.
Thanks for the book suggestion. I'll check it out. And for all you MySpacians out there, check out BUCKET. They are incredibly funny and talented performers.
Cheers!
-Jon
A chicken and an egg laying in a bed. The chicken takes a puff from his cigaretee, turns to the egg and says.... "well... I guess we answered THAT question!"
Hey Charlie, yeah the whole GW experience was pretty draining for my old ma but she's always been such a fighter. I'm glad to hear she has your support and resource...One get's tired of hearing the Malihas of the world slagging their mother from the stage.
Hey guys - great to see you're having so much success! Hopefully we'll be able to catch you down in Seattle. We'll be there for the PUSH Cabaret on the 8th! Keep making people laugh - and good luck at the Comedy Festvial as well!
Living in Vancouver who doesn't have a photo with Robin Williams! (at least you guys got the props to back it up). I would now like to pledge everyone (even the bar staff at Bosmans) to post theirs. Here's mine...
Hopefully one day you come to China, do some comedy..and Paul gets mistaken for a chinese person after the show..(followed by Canada trying to secure the release of the "Political Prisoner")..now the question is...what would be funnier..The show..or the post show explanation of how all chinese are asians..but not all asians are chinese (this being a blasphemous idea in China..) Good Luck, hopefully you can get the audience as into your show as you did students in class Mr. Bae :) and if you dont come to china..ohh well ill see you in 2010 when Canada owns the US at hockey...again lol
