Please join us for the 19th annual
Buckman Art Show & Sell in 2009! This fun art festival and fundraiser will take place March 6 & 7, 2009. Artist applications, due dates, and details will be announced in the fall of 2008 at http://www.buckmanelementary.org/artsale
What is the Buckman Art Show & Sell?
It’s a benefit for Buckman Arts Focus Elementary School, an annual art festival featuring the work of more than 100 Pacific Northwest artists – everything from paintings and sculptures to ceramics, jewelry, fashions, photography and toys – in a festive atmosphere filled with music, food, and fun. A student art gallery showcases the talents of Buckman's young artists, and hands-on kids' art activities keep the little ones busy while their parents shop! This vibrant, beloved community event benefits the arts programs at Portland's Buckman Elementary School Arts Focus. The 2008 Buckman Art Show & Sell took place on April 11 & 12.
What is the Buckman Bash?
On April 11, 2008, the Jupiter Hotel Dream Tent rocked with the talents of James Mercer, frontman for The Shins, and Stephen Malkmus, of Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks! The evening's proceeds benefit the award-winning arts-integrated academic education program of Buckman Elementary School Arts Focus.
Performance artist, writer, and filmmaker Andrew Dickson (whose performance piece Sell Out was a hit at T:BA 2007), and Tara from KNRK 94.7FM, teamed up to co-emcee the evening's festivities. A silent art auction featuring work by artists Storm Tharp, Jenene Nagy, Eugenia Pardue, Marlana Stoddard Hayes, Joe Thurston, Scott Wayne Indiana, Curtis Pachunka & Karen Koch, Justin "Scrappers" Morrison, Alicia J. Rose, Jonny Fenix, Bwana Spoons, Brett Superstar, Harvest Henderson, and others, and a Buckman student art gallery rounded out the evening's festivities. In addition, an Epiphone Les Paul guitar signed by both James Mercer and Stephen Malkmus was auctioned to a lucky bidder.
