Influences

Sounds LikeNormally it would be easy to take a list to an artist and search your memory for that sound. Ya know, the years of listening to music where you can instantly compare what you’re hearing to artists of the past. The one’s who were the pioneers of that sound folks have come to know and love. Well. With Buck Page you can’t really do that! Buck is that pioneer, he is that sound folks have come to love. He was there during a time that one of American’s most treasured genres of music was born; Western Music is defined with the sound of Buck Page and collegues like Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. From his classic voice to the lyrics in his songs. Buck rode the prairies that he sang about. Buck felt the wind in his face and heard its songs as it would lull him and hundreds of other cowboys to sleep during the many decades of Cowboy and Western culture that still exist in areas all over America. Western Music sounds like Buck Page

About Buck Page and his Riders of the Purple Sage
If you would like to be re-inspired by what is best in life check out Buck Pages new CD, Right Place to Start. At age 83, it is his first solo musical endeavor, and one of the finest collections of Western music ever produced. Although Buck only recently completed this historic recording for the RPS label, it is already proving to be a classic project, tracking old favorites side by side with several never before recorded numbers likely to become classics themselves. Every one of Bucks vocals on Right Place to Start is steady and comforting, while the track selection is a perfect mix of upbeat, tender, and reflective songwriting. Guest appearances on Right Place to Start, include award winning singer-songwriter, R.W. Hampton, who joined Buck on "Ridin on the Last Trail Home and "Quiet Times Alone" while the Daughters of the Purple added their beautiful Western harmony to "Lay it on the Line" Although Stan Jones, "Ghost Riders in the Sky" has been recorded by well over 200 artists, Im positive you have never heard it delivered quite like this before. You'll be knocked clean out of your saddle when you hear Buck's almost 6 minute, bluegrass flavored, punk-Cowboy cover of it. Buck's first solo effort was produced by Joe DiBlasi who is one of the most requested session gutarists in the Country. The Record also soon produced top honors in some of the Nations most competitive indie recording compititions along with one track being honored as being in the top 10 of the most requested Western songs of 2007. While Buck Page may have been born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he has been a true Cowboy all his life, beginning with his singing Cowboy career at age thirteen. He recalls that he has punched cattle in Colorado, Montana, Oklahoma, and Wyoming, on nine different ranches in his Cowboy lifetime, including buckaroo work on two of Walt Disney ranches. Buck recently became one of the first official members of the National Day of the Cowboy organization and a recipient of the Cowboy Keeper award given to those who have been instrumental in the promotion and preservation of our Western Heritage. Except during Buck's military break (at which time Foy Willing chose to bill under the name "Riders of the Purple Sage"), Buck has held onto the reins of the Riders of the Purple Sage sense 1936. Talk about longevity and consistency!. Buck has always been involved in music, even when he owned ten percent of the Valley View Lounge, a nightclub in Riverton, Wyoming, complete with a race track, a steak house and a sixteen lane bowling ally. Although Buck Page is primarily a vocalist and lead guitarist, his musical talent certainly doesn't end there. He plays twenty-one instruments in all, including rhythm guitar, mandolin, tenor banjo, plectrum banjo, 5-string banjo, steel guitar and drums. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild and became a lifetime member of the American Federation of Musicians at seventeen. Buck Page has studied with guitarists George Smith and Barney Kessel, and worked recording sessions with Spade Cooley, Glen Miller, Buck Owens, Lefty Frizzell, Stewart Hamblen, Leon McAuliffe, Johnnny Western and many more of America's most beloved music icons. Buck played the guitar on the original recording of "Bonanza," the song prior to it being used on the TV show. He is on the guitar in the "Seventy-Seven Sunset Strip" theme song, and he played on "Tales of Wells Fargo," "Wagon Train," "Laramie," and "Checkmate," TV shows At 84 years young when his new CD was released, The Buck had not stopped yet. He was still touring and performing in clubs and rodeos, at Gene Autry's Golden Boot Awards and filmed 3 music video's along with the taping of a documentary on his life and his working love with Western Music. One of his most cherished memories though is performing for another of America's best known Cowboys, President Ronald Reagan. Buck explains the thing he liked most about the whole five-month recording project was that everyone who worked on it was so talented and all got along perfectly with each other. I have to say though that it would be difficult to imagine Buck Page having a cross word with anyone. He smiles continually and his disposition is sunshine warm. He was smiling and nodding as he insisted, " I can't take all the credit for the success of this project." The Source Entertainment Group & RPS Records is completing a documentary on the life and career of Buck Page, which was (prior to his passing)scheduled to be released in the fall of 2007. In it, you'll be led by R.W. Hampton through Buck's seven amazing decades of his life in Cowboy Western music. From his early days in the 1930's when Cowboy music touched the hearts of so many Americans, right through WWII, rock and roll, and up into the 21st century, when the same music still touches music lovers in its timeless way. Western Jubilee recording artist, Don Edwards, makes a guest appearance in the film, to share his knowledge of Western music's history, and then, nineteen year old award winning artist, Ginny Mac, talks about her discovery of Western Music and ongoing love for the genre. The Lost Canyon Rangers also join in the documentary and share their long time love of Cowboy Western music and their thoughts about the great Buck Page. Buck Page's career is an epic of excellence within the world's music industry. He and the music he loves represent a cherished and unique element of America's culture that has remained constant and will surely endure forever. Buck Page's legacy continues and we honor his efforts to support this important flagship of American music as it continues its journey with all the class that it deserves, the class that is in fact, Western music's timeless signature. Buck Page is indeed a larger-than-legendary figure in America's musical legacy. We love you and miss you Buck
