Here's to my dear mother who passed away January 3rd - 2009. She was 92 years young. For all of you who knew and loved her, here's a few photos and a poem my wife, Gigi, wrote and read to eulogize my mom at her memorial service.
By Gigi Barrett

Bucky Barrett below - 1958
Photo of Bucky ( above ) and the band ( The Monarches underneath ) in 1958 playing at Allison's Wells, MS...... These old tapes have just been found and will be available on the Majic Music label... Coming soon...Click on the last song in the player for a sample of this music.......
I remember.....A slow blooze with a burnin’ fuse and some hoochie cooze was exactly what we all needed on a Friday and Saturday night in Mississippi.... 1958... Allison’s Wells Mississippi to be exact.... The silouhetted couples with their bodies so close together ...Slow dancin’ on the floor in the blue smokey light... We would play long blues solos and try and get the people goin’....We were just trying to move people... to touch their hearts with what we were feelin’ ...Gazin’ off the bandstand and gettin’ a glance every now and then with a smile, nod and a wink... Knowin’ we were doin’ what we set out to do.... It made everything alright.....
This CD will be available soon... on the Majic Music label...

Buddy Harmon - below -
My friend Buddy Harman passed away the evening of August 21st - 2008. He was one of Nashville's most-recorded drummers. He was 79 years old. Buddy played drums on more than 18,000 recordings, including Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman," Patsy Cline's "Crazy," Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire," Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man" and Elvis Presley's "Little Sister," Hank Garland's "After The Riot," in Newport.
He was an early staff drummer on the Grand Ole Opry and among the first prominent drummers in country music history. Buddy and I were in the Nashville Superpickers along with Barry Walsh and Henry Strzelecki and had a record deal with Magnum Force in Europe and also Audiograph in the US. He was a great friend and will certainly be missed.

Boots Randolph - My friend and bandmember with "The Mighty Handful" - Boots passed away on July 3rd of 2007. There is a huge gap in the music community and he is greatly missed.

during Elvis week that contained an insert pre autographed by all except for
Boots Randolph.
For a limited time only, while supplies last, we are offering the remaining
unsold numbered autographed copies for ordering here for the same price as
sold at the show at $20 each. And for just $2.50 shipping per CD we will

Some of the earliest influences in Mississippi were the Blues Men that would drift through the service station where I was washing chicken trucks... When they would stop and buy gasoline, I would pump it for them and ask them questions about playing the guitar... What a wealth of information it was... Django Rheinhart was a very big influence, but I never got to meet him... Also there were Hank Garland and Scotty Moore, both who were dear friends and absolute giants in the industry...This section will constantly update as I get photos of some of the guys I met..
Here's a guy I used to go watch play in 1958-59 at the Moonlight Inn right ouside of Canton, Mississippi... Albert King... This guy was fabulous and I will always remember him...
I want to pay tribute to a guy who really inspired me at an early age to be a motorcycle racer. His name is Joe Leonard and is the only American to win the National Championship in both the automobile and motorcycle racing. Like Joe, I had damage to my right foot from a motorcycle accident... so, while healing, I took up the guitar... Anyhow, here are a few photos of Joe and some of my old motorcycles and bikes...
Bucky Barrett is best known as an acoustic and electric guitarist. He
has performed on more than 1600 albums and CDs with acclaimed artists
such as Roy Orbison, Ray Charles, Neil Young, Chet Atkins, k.d. lang,
Willie Nelson, Dottie West, Charlie Daniels and countless others. He
was lead guitarist for Roy Orbison, has toured all over the world, and
continues to make music his life's ambition. His authentic style
ranges from playing Delta blues with Muddy Waters in a dirt floor club
in Chicago to the velvet touch of his smooth jazz contemporary CD,
"Long Time Coming." Bucky's studio experience is bluegrass and jazz to
metal, pop and rock...from traditional country to new country... from
traditional gospel to new contemporary Christian... all the way to the
smooth jazz styling and improvisation on a gut string classical
guitar. Today Bucky is the driving force behind Majic Music, a
creative music production company based in Nashville, Tennessee.
It all began a lifetime ago in rural Canton, Mississippi. As Bucky
felt more and more passion to play the guitar, he began to live his
life around learning to play. He took a menial job in high school at a
gas station, which fortuitously changed his life. He washed chicken
trucks there with two Black dudes, Bo Peep and Git Loo. They introduced
him to the great Black players of that time who would come through
town to get gasoline. He met Elmore James, B.B. King, Albert King. Bobby
Blue Bland and countless others, most of whom would stop at the station
and show this white kid with a dream the guitar licks that made them
famous. These legends in the business only made this small-town kid
from rural Mississippi more sure of his destiny to play.
Bucky hit the road with a band, beginning his life as a full-time
musician right after high school. He paid his dues several times over
playing small clubs every night for the first couple of years. Along
the way he played with Muddy Waters in Chicago, who changed this
young man's life forever. Bucky was mesmerized by the magical sounds
of Muddy Waters and his soulful style. Further influenced by the
performances of John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy and Joe Diorio, Bucky's
sound became authentic and original.
Experience the musical genius of one of the most original, authentic
players of our time. Access BuckyBarrett.com to enjoy the current
projects in the works with one of Bucky's idols, Scotty Moore. Feel the
influence of his friend, Hank Garland, when you listen to a clip from
Bucky's site. Relive the Roy Orbison sound, as you access clips from
Bucky's tribute album to his dear, departed friend. Be prepared for a
wonderful ride as you access the site of one of the most innovative
and talented guitarists of our time...Feel the history... Relive the
sounds... Enjoy the ride.

Here's a photo taken in March of 1983 in Australia. It's Roy Orbison on the Don Lane Show. Bucky is on the far right. NO.... I don't smoke!!!!!!!
Since I have had so many requests for more photos of Roy Orbison, I decided to post another... This was in Dallas, Texas about 1985. Also, for all the guitar collectors out there, This is a Valley Arts Stratocaster, custom made for me by Mike McGuire in Studio City, California.
Photos from a birthday party this past Saturday night for a friend of mine... Thom Bresh who just turned 60. From left to right - Bob Moore, Thom Bresh, Bucky Barrett and Scotty Moore.
The Birthday boy Thom Bresh... What a guitar player! After all, what would you expect from Merle Travis' son?
Also at the party, Country Music Star Jack Green. Jack had just done the Opry and came by for the party. I had done an album with Jack 30 plus years ago.
Here's Wes Montgomery, whom I met in Hermosa Beach, California in 1966 while he was playing in a club called "The Lighthouse". Wes was kind enough to spendtime and show some tricks of the trade. I will never forget him as he laughed because I couldn't quit starring at him. I had worn his records out trying to learn where he was coming from. He told me to come on over while he was taking a break. I asked to see his thumb and he laughed again. He showed me how an augmented chord could move every three frets up the fingerboard against a dominant 7th chord. This man couldn't have been any nicer and I couldn't have been any luckier to have spent time with him and learn this.... It was absolute brilliance! Here he is in Belgium a year before I met him.....
Thanks for looking at all these photos..
More to come!
Your friend,
Bucky Barrett
