Hi there, everybody. Buddy Culver is really me, Darren Proctor, from Dearborn, Michigan.?
Back in the day, I used to D.J. at the campus radio station at The University of Michigan-Dearborn -- WUMD. I remember it well, man what good times. Back then (the mid-to-late 80s), there was an explosion of "alternative" bands coming to the forefront. College Radio was a novelty until that point, but its influences began to spread far and wide as bands like The Cure and R.E.M. found homes on campus' before they did on commercial radio. I have great memories of playing bands like "Guadacanal Diary", "Hoodoo Gurus" and "They Might Be Giants". We were spinning vinyl when all of a sudden, CD's popped up and exploded all over the place. It made d.j.-ing easier, but there was something magical about giving that vinyl a 1/4 turn backwards before letting it fly to glory on the Technics 1200 turntables. Once you D.J., it pretty much gets in ya and never leaves. When I was in college there was a tune called, "Birth, School, Work, Death" by The Godfathers. Anybody remember them? What a fun band. We met them at St. Andrews Hall in dowtown Detroit. We were supposed to interview them. Imagine 4 college guys sitting there with 4 hard-drinking British guys wearing immaculate suits. These guys played in suits. It was a riot. They wouldn't let us interview them until we all drank something first. Let's just say, several cases of beer later and a bunch of laughs, they let us conduct the interview and afterwards went on to put on a memorable show. Since those college days, I've also D.J.-ed clubs, bars and at probably a hundred weddings, so you could say this d.j. thing is "in me". I guess that is why this podcast thing is so much fun. I get to d.j. as a hobby and bring good music to people that otherwise probably wouldn't be heard. My music tastes are so varied. I like pretty much everyting. So, if you know of a indie band past or present, let me know. I'd love to play 'em. And listen for talk about good beer and cigars too. Its all about vices on The Buddy Culver Show. Vices go good with rock and roll, don't they? ;-)?
What is my reasoning behind The Buddy Culver Show??
Over the years, I've been to what seems a countless number of clubs, bars and venues that populate the Motor City. I usually sit in the back, jam to the band and enjoy a beer or two or three. My purpose here is simple. It is to keep the spirit of original music, from the past to the present alive. Were you in a band kickin' out metal in the 80s and want to keep that music alive? Were you jammin' in the clubs in the 90s? In a current band? Send in your mp3's then! Hell ya! Send in those tunes. Be heard!?
Podcasting is really just a fancy name for what amounts to an internet radio show. The nice thing is that its freeform. If you have an original song, not owned by some big label's catalog, I can play it. And I say whatever the hell I want, which is cool. You can listen via the show links on the main page and download it to your PC or get yourself an mp3 player or iPod and use the software (freeware) mentioned on the main page and the "XML" link and have the show automatically downloaded to your iPod. Listen when you want to listen. Ah technology! ?
How did Buddy Culver get his name? Its my porn star name! You take the name of the first pet you had (male pet for guy, female for woman) and combine it with the street name where you grew up.?
Thank you for stopping here. Enjoy the shows!?
Oh, and who is Mario? Its a secret. But let me tell you what? He is the man and a great podcast producer.
We are finally ready to start promoting my 'I Surrender' single with my album, 'Ella Trip' coming right after -yey!! What d'ya think to the video teaser?
There is currently a search for two types of bands for record label consideration.
*** Note: PLEASE IDENTIFY IF YOU ARE IN GROUP 1 OR 2 IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF YOUR RESPONSE. Emails are being reviewed by different representatives.
1. A Pop/Rock/Commercial band with female lead. Band must consist of 2 guitars (Prefer both guitar players to be of lead caliber. However, one lead and one rhythm is acceptable), keyboard/piano, bass, and drums. Lead vocal, followed by backing vocals, in that order, is a plus as it relates to other members of the group. Average age of the band cannot exceed 28 years of age.
* Group must have an outstanding lead vocalist. ** Musicianship throughout the entire band must be very strong. *** Group cannot currently be under any contract of any type that is related to the music industry.
2. A Modern Rock band with male lead. Must be a complete band but there are no prerequisites as it relates to the make up of the band. Average age of the band cannot exceed 23 years of age.
* Group must have an outstanding lead vocalist. ** Musicianship throughout the entire band must be very strong. *** Group cannot currently be under any contract of any type that is related to the music industry.
XXX - If you meet the minimum qualifications as described above. Email a link for your MySpace Page and if applicable, a link for your website to: recordingartistsearch@gmail.com
Only send one email with your links. Due to the volume of responses normally received for these types of opportunities. After review of your material, you will only be contacted if there is an interest in attending one of your shows by a label representative. As such please to not send any follow up emails regarding selections. If you were not contacted back, there was not an interest.

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
