Influences
Stuff like: Acoustic guitars, pretty noises, traditional instruments, heavy rock music, funk, soul, parties, chilling out, sunsets, sunrise, cold fresh winter mornings, hot sunny beaches, riding motorbikes, good conversation, friendships.
Other stuff: Jim Beam n coke, a light red wine, golden real ale and the odd shot of sambuca. In that order. Strong, fresh coffee (or a latte) and weak slightly sweet tea. Always use regular squirts of WD40/GT85 for all the moving parts and exposed fasteners and connectors.
Sounds Like
Complete and utter disregard for anything. Marmite, innit?
Built by Robots is the studio project of singer/songwriter Gavin Grissett. "Locally Sourced Produce" the self-written, engineered and produced debut long-player features collaborations with many professional and amateur musician friends from Gavin's local area. The album can be downloaded from iTunes, Napster and Amazon amongst other good e-tailers.
"a reflective and sensual work, a work of passion, a work of massive strength and a work to believe in ... an incredible mode of musical transport - the man, the band, the idea - so right, so cool, so enjoyable ... like nothing else, like no one else, this is sensational stuff - flawless, faultless - absolutely stunning!!" toxic pete.
"...has much to enjoy, musically, lyrically and vocally. The use of a multitude of instruments help to add beautiful moments to many songs, very little on this album is simple, though every sound seems needed and nothing is overdone. There really is loads to enjoy here". BH One.co.uk.

Because of the nature of the "band", live gigs are few and far between but here are some clips from the local launch party at The Gander in Bournemouth on 12th July 2008, courtesy of event organisers www.bhone.co.uk

Hey Gavin. Prior to the official release of The Sables LP 'South Southern Angel', their latest EP 'Neptune River' has once again been picked up by Radcliffe & Maconie. The title track of their first EP, 'Baby You Don't Know' was voted as Record of the Week by listeners to the Radio 2 show earlier this year. Now 'The Blue Light' is again in contention for that honour, being played this Thursday (the show runs from 8pm), and listeners will be able to choose their fave single by visiting the show's website and registering their vote. If you dig the tune and fancy voting, here's a handy link :)
All sounding fantastic mate. You have made real groundbreaking moves here in recording different peoples ideas in your work and created an incredible vision of current suburbia in the process.
We intend to fall down the hill into your studio any day Gav! The lyrics are so good and so relevent and so well supported by amazingly talented and real people.

With everything cooked in slow pots
The price of oil will rise
It's the human's demise
