Bullet are a Country rockabilly group that herald from Melbourne Australia.
Drawing inspiration from many musical landscapes, they craft 3 part harmonies with uniquely Australian Country music themes perfectly represented in their reworking of the classic Australian bush ballad 'Wild Colonial Boy'.
Bullet has an electric foot stompin' sound that defies traditional Country musical pigeon holes. This will be the 4th Tamworth Country Music Festival for the groups pioneer Al Backstrom. Bullet played every major venue in Tamworth during 2007's amazing Country Music Festival. Crowds flooded through the doors for a look at the band creating the country rockabilly backbeats in the swelteringly hot bars they played in. The reception at Joe Maguires, The Courthouse, The Albert, The Tamworth Town Hall was incredible. The highlight came on Australia Day, when Bullet played with The Detonators in the massive marquee at the rear of the Albert Hotel. In a scorcher 42 degree heat, Bullet unveiled 9 new tunes that had the beer & the sweat flowing through the aisles. 8 shows followed in just 6 days, and the Bullet movement just got stronger & stronger by the moment. The 'Australiana' music movement had been strongly represented that Tamworth with the amazing acts that appeared from the woodwork such as The Re-mains, The Detonators and the truly incredible Ruckus. The Music we make is a testament to the 'Australiana' style we know is unique to all of us. Decorated with corrugated roads, lonesome desert highways, cheap motels and tiny pubs with even tinier stages for the odd character brave enough to get up & slap a Bull Fiddle Bass (or other !). A infusion of country, rockabilly & rock/pop- a preview to a new flavour in Australian original roots music.
The 1st album is in the double barrels as we speak & was recorded painstakingly over 2 years of determination & homing in on the elusive perfect 3 part harmony. Combined with foot stomping ‘bull fiddle upright bass’ & thigh slapping drums, the Bullet guys & gal, are sure to leave a lasting impression. Their voices soar throughout the recording, and leave plenty of room for imagery of the highways & biways that form a spiders web across the Australian atlas.
A thousand miles of open desert road stretches out before us. Whats our sound ?......Barrooms, Bedrooms & Baron desert highways. Music played as it should be…..music that moves, like a river through a winding desert canyon out to the open sea. The Fresh collides with the Salt. Paddy 'Bullet' says...“ when I started playing and harmonizing with Al Backstrom & the group, something worked right away...to me, our music has a soulful, meaningful & original Australiana kind of feeling, put together with traditional melodies, I think there will always be people out there who crave an original Australian Country Rockabilly sound that is thought of as only being created elsewhere in the world."
Live audiences are struck by the band's straight forward country rock and heartfelt lyrics. Without the expectations of working as a purely country rock band , Bullet were freed to explore each member's many musical influences and ideas.
Al Bullet says..." That's the thing about this first record, it's just more emotional and personal, more of the moment. I'm very proud of it." When they played the new songs in Tamworth, Bullet responded with renewed energy and purpose, anchoring the songs with accomplished musicianship and vigour.
