About me: I woke up before the alarm clock rang. Oh, a wonderful day! The sunbeam’s radiant glow on my face invites me to get out of bed and to see the world and the gifts it will bring! Quickly shower, get dressed and rush out to my car – I don’t want to waste a minute… a second of this moment. As I drive down the road, the sun greets me again – giving light to the path I’m on, guiding me to that special destination…
Wait, wait, wait…right…there.
This isn’t a fairy tale.
I can only wish that it were like that.
Here is my fucking reality:
The alarm clock buzzes. Hit snooze. Power nap. Nine minutes later the alarm clock goes off again. Hit snooze and turn off the clock. Lie in bed, eyes wide open. Deep breath. Heavy sigh. Rub eyes. Hop out of bed. Step on pile of dirty clothes along the way. Grab a towel, turn on the water. Step into the shower. Close eyes – this is the only moment of relaxation for the day. Wet, lather, rinse and repeat. Step out, dry off and get dressed. Make lunch, take wallet and grab keys. Unlock, open the door, sit down, seatbelt and put the key in the ignition. Turn on, step on gas and pull out. Driveway, expressway, freeway… thinking “there has got to be a better way.” Approaching soon to the parking lot. Found a spot…pull in. Turn the car off… sit for a while… looks at watch. You’ll be marked late soon. Hurry off with heavy feet. Time card in hand.
Punch in.
Let the fun begin.
Sound familiar? I bet it might ring a bell with some of you – those that rise with the sun and goes off to a job that offers no real self-gratification. Only more of a reason to drink yourself silly, question your self worth and wonder as you stumble home from the bar and then lay in bed at night, “is it really worth it to do this another day?”
Trust me, I know where you are coming from. I must be a masochist of some sorts; seeing that I keep returning to this workplace I call hell sweet hell. But, by no ways do I enjoy this routine daily “sand in the Vaseline” punishment that I must go through.
I must be a fucking idiot. Plain and simple.
Oh, you must be wondering, “what ever does he do?”
My name is Al. I work retail.

oh, and before issue number 7 of the zine comes out, you might be interested in getting bulletproof popemobile - the book which will be out mid 2007. it will give backgroud to the 5 published (and one unpublished) print versions of the bulletproof popemobile zine, as well as how the webzine got started... and ended. plus, i'll have the zines reprinted in the book as well so those that read it back in the day can reflect on it, and those that didn't can see what i did about 12 or so years ago up to now! more info on the book soon, and look for a possible contest in regards to the book...
and, remember "through a child's eye" zine? well, you can read them all over again! "through a child's eye: the book" is OUT NOW!!!! get it at www.lulu.com/content/755901!
if you ever feel the need or desire to want to buy me stuff (because you know you do), feel free! might i suggest you take a look at my wish list? it has the best ideas on what i like, and what others can get me... or, make it easy on yourself and get me a gift credit at either amazon.com or at edaymovie.com! but, please, no need for gifts... but, if you must, you must do it right... ;)
anything else you would like to know, i'd be happy to take any questions.
while you are thinking of one, here is my favorite skit from mtv's "the state" (it needs to be on dvd now!!!!)... all i got to say to you is we had the 240, we had to have the puddin'...
