Founded in 2000 as a three-piece, Bullship’s songs are influenced by the
likes of Talking Heads, Blonde Redhead, Television & Sonic Youth (though
clearly exploring their own sonic territories).
“… With its stuttering percussion, aching vocals, jittery guitars and sweeping
electronic arrangements, things quickly grow moody. The songs continually
juxtapose grandeur and intimate, swelling indie-rock.”
- Courtney Devores (Charlotte Observer)
With 2 studio albums under their independent .wav label & the recent
addition of 2 new members (David Collins & Scott McCannell), Bullship
is currently focusing their efforts on supporting "is/was" through live
performances. Their diverse sound has allowed them to share the stage
with acts ranging from Adam Franklin (Swervedriver) to Benji Hughes
to Don Caballero.
“...Where Okkervil River meets the Pavement. The horn-spiked “You Are a
Song” is sentimental in the best way: all the way. Often called “math rock”
in regional media, Bullship might better be defined by good ol’ addition &
subtraction. Out with the old: the abrasive sharp edges of precocity; in with
the new: experience, and the wisdom to let that bird sing.”
- Timothy C. Davis (Shuffle Magazine)
