FIRST OFF, I'M NOT A RAPPER-I'M A PRODUCER.IF U CAME 2 MY PAGE WANTING ME 2 DO A SHOW OR SOME SHIT, I AIN'T THA 1.LET'S TAKE IT 2 THA STUDIO, SUCKA!
Bump has been around for a minute. When he was a child, he was given his first turntable [1976], & started doing all kinds of things with his records. He listened to Parliament & Funkadelic, as well as KISS, admiring their work ethic.
As Hip Hop came, he started out listening to Sugarhill Gang & Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, as well as Run DMC & LL Cool J, trying to mimic the lyrics & scratching, even on generic turntables.Around 1992, his old friend Bugout introduced him to a mutual friend who owned a studio, & his love for production began. His cousin Steel got involved, & the idea solidified-THIS WAS WHAT THEY WERE PUT HERE TO DO.
When the mutual friend started to move on to other projects & types of music, Bump & the fellas went back to basics-2 turntables & a mic, crafting freestyle songs & playing them for anyone who would listen.Within a couple years, they met BK who started Ignorant & Rude Records with their help.Even though they did hundreds of songs & thousand of beats for the label, the partnership grow sour [mainly because they were'nt access to publishing rights], & they severed ties in 2000.
The same year, Bump connected with a childhood friend Brian Hobard.Bump talked about the problems he had just came off of from I&R, & Hobard told him about an idea he had, called "True 2 Life Records".Bump loved the name, & set out to start fresh beats for whoever was gonna be scouted.Hobard found Dice, Bump approved Shyce, & the team was born.Even Bump's partners from years back were down for the name.
But in 2003, things took a swift turn-Hobard didn't care about the musical aspect of things, as well as the label [or the artists, until years later], never returning calls or coming to the studio. At this time, Bump had enough clout & beats to do his own thing. So instead of trying to team up with someone else again to get something going, Bump decided to make his own umbrella, named after what he would call his music-"Y-FUNK".
Bump continued to produce True 2 Life as well as Y-Funk from '03-'04, then called it quits as Hobard didn't exactly have a real gameplan down on where to record or when to even have team meetings.Bump stayed true to his roots, & kept doing things with his true partners.
