  • Bio

.. The Asheville based bluegrass band known as Buncombe Turnpike began in 1998. Three acclaimed albums and nine years later Buncombe Turnpike has grown from their original four piece line-up into an energetic Bluegrass quintet featuring Banjo, Upright Bass, Guitar, Mandolin and Resonator Guitar. The band plays a variety of heartfelt tunes ranging from traditional and contemporary bluegrass to gospel and hand crafted Buncombe Turnpike originals. With their crowd pleasing demeanor, seasoned musicianship, and powerful vocals the band has made a name for themselves among traditional and contemporary listeners alike. .. In July of 2002, the band released their first album titled ‘The Ballad of Baldy Blue John and Jake’ featuring seven Buncombe Turnpike originals and three traditional pieces which was voted the 10 Bluegrass Album of the year by devout WNCW listeners. .. It is no surprise that their 2004 sophomore release ‘Blackwater Bottom’ made waves on the air, proving yet again that they are one of the premier Bluegrass bands from the musical hotbed of Asheville NC. “ Blackwater Bottom” was also voted the number 10 bluegrass album for 2004 by WNCW listeners, and number 54 in the top 100 of all genres. BWB recieved a hightlight review in Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine... B. T.'s third release"Picker's Paradise" was voted the number nine bluegrass releases of 2006 by WNCW listeners, and recieved a fine review in Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine. The "Picker's" C.D. is dedicated to the musicians who have been instrumental in making Western North Carolina a true "Picker's Paradise."....
