Established in 2003, Burning Building Recordings (BBR) was founded by a one-man DIY machine (Brian Jackson) as a way to release and promote records from the bands and artists he was working closely with. A similarly minded individual (Chris Travis) joined the team in 2004 and they quickly began building what BBR represents today – a means to release and support independent music from bands and artists, both deserving of attention and those that BBR truly believes in and supports.
Brian Jackson:
Having worked with bands for 10+ years, Brian brings the guerrilla smarts and consistent creativity to BBR. A former promoter/manager for Endless Vertigo Music and director of promotions for now defunct all ages venues, The Paradox & The Brick:House/AWOL, Brian handles the website, graphics, A&R, and day to day Seattle operations for the label. Brian is also a proud father and husband, plays bass in a local band, and frequents Blue C Sushi.
Chris Travis:
Formerly a local DJ on 107.7 The End where he hosted "The Young & The Restless", Chris became an integral part of the Seattle music scene, frequenting shows, supporting bands, and evangelizing for local music. Having also worked for Bumbershoot and other labels (BMG, EMI), Chris brings the unrelenting passion and business sense to BBR. He handles the numbers, A&R, PR, and project management for BBR releases. In his spare time, he lived in England, loves muffins, and listens to way too many BBR records.
LISTEN TO BBR RELEASES:
The Lonely Forest "We Sing The Body Electric!" "There's a band from Seattle called the Lonely Forest whose record I just picked up. They're a new band, it came out few weeks ago, and that's totally doing it for me right now." - Chris Walla, Death Cab for Cutie
"The Lonely Forest deserve credit for steering clear of rock cliches and stale melodies - these guys are inventive. I think this is going to thrill indie pop rock fans... By far and away, the best track is 'We Sing in Time', one of the catchiest and instantly likable tunes of the year so far. I have hit replay so many times after this track that my index finger is numb."- Bill's Music Forum
"As I listened to We Sing The Body Electric!, it became apparent that I was hearing one of the best albums so far this year. Song after song reveals rich, raw, sophisticated, emotional, party-ready and wonderfully crafted music; there are no gimmicks or cookie cutter rock here. What worries me about bands that are this good is what could happen to them if they become too popular." - Indie Rock Cafe
"..."We Sing In Time," gave me goosebumps. In a really, really good way. ...(The Lonely Forest) has written some very earnest, beautiful pop songs, and the experience I had listening to "We Sing In Time," brought Jimmy Eat World's very best qualities to mind." - Seattle Weekly
The Oregon Donor "Somethings"
"They're young, ferociously passionate, with a progressive sound both energetic and expansive... one of the very best live bands that I've encountered in the past few months."
- Chris Estey, Three Imaginary Girls
To The Waves "To The Waves" "If this was truly a fair world, music journalists would stop using this tired cliche and To The Waves would be all over FM radio. The band's style of melodic rock is crafted perfectly for it, and that's no insult. Though it would probably gain them a few listeners to mention this is the new project from Jesse Fox (Polecat, Leuko, Seaweed), the band doesn't need it, as the music truly stands on its own... To The Waves showcase a talent for writing hauntingly catchy songs good enough that they don't need to reinvent the wheel." (4 stars)
- Seattle Sound
City Light's "Down the Pacific" “If you’re into moody, haunting, electronic indie-rock, you would do well to check out City Light…the moments that shine do so very brightly”
- Independent Clauses
“Undiscovered Band of the Month, March 2009”
- Filter Magazine
Speaker Speaker's "Call It Off" "Ted Leo at his fiercest fronting 24 Hour Revenge Therapy-era Jawbreaker...4 out of 5 stars" - Alternative Press
""… 'Call It Off' sound like Nirvana and The Posies are having a battle of the bands inside your stereo… Simply put, this is a must buy for anyone hoping to latch on to Seattle's next big thing before they explode."
- Seattle PI
Daniel G Harmann "Anthems From the Gentle War"
"This album is full of musical landscapes that are lush, sincere, and diverse. He's a singer-songwriter, but one who writes songs with a larger palette of emotions than most songwriters. This is the kind of album that would be perfect to listen to if you were taking a relaxing drive around the countryside, wanting to escape from, while keeping your mind focused on, a larger life."
- The Wheels Still Spin
