Influences
"You can think about the Burns Sisters in terms of style, influences, harmonic...all the everyday ways of categorizing music, but the essence of the sisters is a matter of spirit. Soul, if you will. Otis Redding, Miles Davis, Joan Baez and Mercedes Sosa have little in common stylistically, yet each of them emits a palpable spirit that appears as natural and sturdy as the notes themselves.
Annie, Marie and Jeannie Burns make a music that is disarming not because it is pretty, which it is, but because they are traveling along an inner path they know by heart. Every song is tied to the center of things, to the everyday hunt for warmth on a cold planet, to family and history and blood. Spirit."

"Like the angels of political and social hope bringing light through
the dark clouds of post-9/11 America. Their take on "God's Promise," a
Woody Guthrie lyric set to music by Ellis Paul, is a gorgeous hymn for
humanity. Conversely, their performance of Guthrie's "Vigilante Man"
show how three beautiful voices can be wielded like the sharp edge of
a sword.
The sisters new CD, which promises to be the sort of music we sorely
need in these turbulent times of conflict and confusion. Their
stirring take on Leonard Cohen's "Democracy" offers tangible optimism
that the electoral times just might be a changin'. Marie's "Bring Them
Home" supports the troops in the best way possible by wishing for the
safe return of those Americans placed in harm's way. Though The Burns
Sisters are admittedly lapsed former Catholic schoolgirls, the
heavenly way they sing Andrew Lloyd Weber's requiem "Pie Jesu" shows
that they have a direct line to the divine.
It's all to be heard on a new CD titled Wild Bouquet.

Glad you were at Woodyfest this year even if you didn't have an offical set. I've finally started posting blogs and photos for it and hope you'll come by and check them out.
It was great seeing you again in Okemah at the Woody Guthrie Festival. I'm so glad to have caught your show at Lou's Rocky Road Tavern. Your harmonies move my spirit and touch my heart. I have all your cd's, both collectively and individually. I'm looking forward to your next cd. Please come to Dallas. If not Dallas, then anyplace in Texas and I will come to the venue. Guess you could say I'm a fan.
Our hearts are broken over the loss of our good friend, Bob Childers. I truly want to believe in life after death at this moment, with hopes to once again see his beautiful smile. Marie
Thanks for adding me. ¶ People hear only what they want, so facts alone won't wake them; they need inspiration too. ¶ This world's evils have a common root: Bullies, liars, thieves, & murderers — particularly those in public office — believe we're all separate, motivated only by self-interest, by greed & fear. They want us to share that belief; they use it to justify themselves, to manipulate us, to shape the world's political & economic systems, perpetuating war & poverty. ¶ But you & I have found something better inside ourselves & our friends. It's in everyone, if we can just wake them; we're all one flesh & blood. Let's spread that vision, for until we do our other advances will be minor & temporary. We are one, and that theological truth has political implications. ¶ The outcome of the ideological struggle is not yet determined, so we may all be needed; no one can afford to be just a spectator. Question authority. Find your place in the movement (if you haven't already); you'll feel stronger as part of the loving community. Keep fighting, loving, hoping, singing. Hand in hand, we may still be able to heal this world. ¶ For now, let's see if this meme will spread: "CLOSE GITMO BY BASTILLE DAY. PASS IT ON. " ¶ Love, Eric
