Since forming in the summer of 2007, Burn the Effigy has quickly risen from obscurity by meticulously integrating earsplitting guitar chords, incisive bass lines and dominating percussion. Uprising from the streets of Providence, Rhode Island, these boys have maintained a “no-nonsense” attitude about their unified, yet, diverse sound that echoes remnants of bands such as Bad Religion, Tool, and Brand New. The band members, Greg Baker, vocals/guitar; Nick McGowan, bass/vocals; and Joe a.k.a.-“Viper” Goncalves, drums, have taken the local music scene by storm and are showing no signs of letting up.
After releasing their Self-Titled EP in early 2008 (Static Productions 2008), Burn the Effigy has demanded immediate attention. With their “Smart Rock” lyrics and emotionally charged choruses highly contrasted by deafening screams, it’s hard to not give this band a closer look. Not unlike their first release, Burn the Effigy’s debut album entitled, “How to Catch on Fire” (Static Productions 2008) serves as a testament as to how this alterna-punk power trio can take indifference and flip it on its ear.
Burn the Effigy has proven to be a necessary component in today’s local music scene. In a vast sea of overplayed and underdeveloped popular music, the call for change has been answered by these three young, bright, energetic up-and-comers. This bombshell trio, with a do it yourself attitude, is just getting started and will stop at nothing on its way to becoming a household name. This is Burn the Effigy, and as their debut album so aptly states, this, is "How to Catch on Fire"!!

p.s. just posted another song ... In a nut-shell its about that feeling of lonliness we all have - sometimes someone doesn't understand you - actually most of the time... kinda hard especially when you really want them to 'get it' - its called 'let you go';
n. p. thanks for the good wishes. we have a drummer but he can't tour for awhile because his wife has cancer. until she gets better, we use different tour drummers who want to go out with us just for the fun and adventure of touring. we're always holding auditions for back-up tour drummers.

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.
There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a link to the video for a new tune called Run Bobby Run:
