Created by Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty and filmmaker Christoph Green, Burn to Shine is a DVD series of live music events shot in buildings that are going to be destroyed. Bands from the area are chosen by a local curator, set up in the doomed building for one day and each perform one song for the cameras alone. By the time you see the footage the structure no longer exists.

Burn to Shine 04: Louisville, KY has been filmed and will be out in 2008. It is packed with great acts, including Will Oldham and Magik Markers.
I have only seen burn to shine three but i really enjoyed it! I was actually there when it was filmed because it was at my house. I had a lot of fun meeting all the bands, especially the shins since I am a big fan of them, and I really enjoyed watching them all perform. It was crazy having all these bands, especially ones that I am fans of play right in my living room! thanks so much for coming it was great! :]
They keep getting better!! Keep this project growing. Everyone should see these! You've established a brilliant new marketing tool in this changing world of how we get music...and it has even loftier purposes than that.
I wish I had my own burn to shine, but i just simply don't have the necessary connections (i.e. none). But I have some great ideas and they're driving me crazy. I hope you will one day do a Burn to Shine Baltimore, but not until Lungfish is active again (crossing fingers). Arbouretum would be great to see on there. The Melvins and Dead Meadow would tear it up in LA, too.
