Burried Droog was formed by Kevin Johnson and Skizz Cyzyk in Baltimore, Maryland in 1983. The two met as session musicians recruited for the same project, and decided to continue working together when that project came to an end. The original line-up was completed with Scott Smith on bass, Kevin on guitar, and Skizz on drums/lead vocals/synthesizer, with Kevin writing most of the music and Skizz writing most of the lyrics. In 1984, Scott relocated to Detroit and was replaced by Joey Cirri (aka St. Anthony from Thee Katatonix). Helping to pioneer a new all-ages underground music community, Burried Droog quickly became a fixture in Baltimore’s hardcore punk scene, building a strong local following, and opening for bands like Scratch Acid, M.I.A., and Braille Party. They frequently played all-ages venues such as The New Loft/Eutaw St. Clubhouse, Toad’s Basement, Oddfellows Hall, Polish National Alliance Hall and local colleges, with occasional shows at bars like Trenton St. Stop and the Marble Bar. Their 1985 debut release, Up Against The Odds, gave them East Coast exposure and college radio airplay, and established them as one of Baltimore’s top underground acts alongside Grey March, Reptile House and Fear Of God. In 1985, Joey left to join Reptile House and was replaced by Michelle Fayer, who left in 1986 and was replaced by Jim Weiprecht. Their song, “Burried Droog,” was re-released on the Evenings & Weekends compilation, and their song, “Positive,” was re-recorded for the Squashed Ants compilation. In 1987 they released a self titled EP, mixing new studio work with live recordings. From that release, “Man In The Mirror” received the most college radio airplay and favorable reviews in zines. In 1988, after five years of activity, Burried Droog played their final show, co-headlining with Grey March at the Towson Armory, with up-and-comers The All Mighty Senators opening the show.

Cool! I'm glad to see a Burried Droog page on MySpace, and even gladder that I'm not responsible for it. I'll try to pull some stuff out of the Droog archive and share it. Here's something to start with - Burried Droog at Toad's Basement in October of 1984. I believe these were taken by Meg Ridgely. That's Paul Lewis in the 4th shot, and me & Toad in the 5th.
