I put my right hand on the right side, curled and poised like a tiger on the pounce; and I put my left hand, fingers fanned and dragging, on the left side. As my brother says, I mew mew mew mew on the steel guitar.
Movies
But when I say I'm mew mew mewing, I dont really mean that. I'm actually pouring my soul into a glass container and then shattering it. I'm giving you the absolute distilled essence of all my hopes and dreams reduced to a single action.
Television
So what do people say when they see me bleed on stage for their entertainment (as if I really do it for you)? They say, "oh man that was AWESOME!" or "I love the slide guitar!" or "Who were you again?" But it doesn't matter. Not at all.
Books
How can that be? Most people work for money. Some work for causes, or because they love the rewards they get from the work itself. Those people are lucky, and to be emulated.
Heroes
I don't work; I play. I play music, not because I enjoy the rewards, and certainly not for money. I do it because I have to. I do it because when I stop doing it, I become miserable and socially unstable. It's a sick compulsion that leads me to artistic gain. Never mistake it for joy, or for noble ideas like love. I am a slave to music, and as such, I simply have no choice but to play as often and as sincerely as I can. mew mew mew!
