Butajazz, c'est 4 musiciens qui se sont rencontrés à Paris courant 2005 au sein d'un collectif de jazz (Pavejazz), reprenant en grande partie le répertoire manouche de Django Reinhardt. Durant l'eté (2005), on ne trouve plus grand monde sur les terrasses des cafés parisiens alors c'est dans le Sud à Saint-Jean de Luz que le groupe s'en va jouer de la musique à la fois festive, fringante et acoustique. Une complicité naît alors entre Manu, Ben (les deux aux guitares), Antoine à la clarinette et David à la contrebasse. Rejoints par Régis (trompette) fin 2005, ils investissent le Caméléon Jazz café sous la couleur de Butajazz Swing Sahmer.
En 2007, butajazz (trio, 4tet ou 5tet) continue d'écumer les petites salles et autres bars parisiens pour faire partager la passion du swing manouche.

We wake up every morning and play the music of the new MySpace friends who have arrived at our site during the night. It occurred to us that these friends (you are among them) are almost universally positive, whether they be novices or legends, and without regard to their station in life or the country they occupy.
Although it's not an original thought, it also occurred to us that we couldn’t hold a verbal conversation with most of these friends, but we have bridged that gap by expressing our art honestly with each other.
We all have been filling the world with our music and art, in the hope that our messages of love and human understanding will have an impact on the world at large.
What a gift and what an opportunity we have received from this technology!
