  • Bio

A singer/songwriter, Butch was born in Huntington, Wv. From a large family, dirt poor, they lived in Gimlet Hollow on the side of a hill in a house owned by his great grandmother. Throughout his school years his mother was left to try and feed 7 children which were abandoned most of the time by their father who was a WWII Vet, with an alcohol problem. With no electricity, no running water, and no indoor plumbing, about all they had for entertainment was their Mothers guitar. She taught most of the children to play. They sang harmony together and attended a Pentecostal Church which helped feed and clothe them. The older ones of the family helped with the family income. Butch, singing in church by the age of 6, learned to play guitar at the age of 8. A very strict religion, they weren't allowed to play anything but gospel, "Don't you be playing 'Ditties' in my house." But Mom taught him to play well and he would sneak and play R & R on the 1943 Parlor (Baby) Martin guitar bought by his Mom for $5. Butch still has the guitar, one of his prized possessions. He followed the job market to Michigan when he was 19 years old. Butch played music in local bands until 2001, with some very succesful tours and venues. His talents were singing lead and harmony, playing rythymn guitar and some leads. The music spanned from R & R to Southern Rock, 50s, 60s, Motown, Folk & Country. These days, retired, his love of music, hard times, and good times inspires writing songs that are heartfelt, and mostly true, with a few embellishments. Former Bands: The 7 Coachmen, The Few, Redeye, Mirage, & Streetcorner. He is The Storyteller. Butch has shared the stage with some current songwriters: John D Lamb, Joel Palmer, Annie Capps, Judy Insley, While with Streetcorner: The Drifters, The Contours, The Reflections (Laredos) The Latin Counts, Sha Na Na In Wv: warm up act for The Parliamounts (The Funkadelics)

Hey Butch. Just checked out The Greatest Generation, and Hearts Drawn in Crayon. The new draft. Love them both. That's country music the way I like it. Great lyrics, great melodies, great classic country vocals, and not over produced. Not too much going on at once. Great job Butch. Looking forward to more. Take care and GOd Bless....Daryl
