Bio
Butterflies On Strings are an indie rock band formed in 2008 in London, consisting of members Allan Harrod (vocals, guitar), Patrick Baker (guitar), Stephen Cunningham (bass) from Ireland and Hugh Fox (drums) from Scotland. Although influenced by great British classics such as The Beatles and Bowie, the synergy that is created through their diverse tastes means their sound often draws on several musical genres, including pop, alternative, indie, folk and post-rock. A unique sound they have often dubbed "post-pop". In their formative years, Butterflies On Strings (named after a friend's recurring dream) evolved from an electronic indie duo comprised of singer-songwriter Allan Harrod on guitar with Patrick Baker then on bass, armed with nothing more than an iPod of backing tracks with programmed synths and electronic drum arrangements. It was not until Patrick later made the shift to guitar and they found its two missing members in the form of friends Hugh Fox and Stephen Cunningham, that the band began to redefine their sound and make their mark on the London live scene. Since then, the energy and intensity of their live show has become a staple part of the London music scene as they continue to grow from strength to strength. It's no wonder more ears have started to take heed of their infectious brand of indie pop which chronicles everything from life through the eyes of youthful innocence in 'The Funniest Joke', to a penchant for astrophysics in the aptly titled 'Late Night Science' or the poignant delicacy of 'A Boy Named Crow' describing life in middle England. As for current influences, most of their inspiration at the moment comes from the other side of the Atlantic, in the form of bands like Death Cab For Cutie, the Shins, Modest Mouse and Okkervil River. The industry have been alert to the bands progression and Butterflies On Strings were recently featured as Gary Crowley’s ‘London Calling’ act for his London feature on his BBC Radio London show. The band were then featured on Gill Mills’ Best of MySpace show and were invited to play Danielle Perry and Kate Lawler’s Kerrang & Q Radio New Music night at 93 Feet East on Brick Lane. The band's debut single 'What Did John Stuart Mill Say Again?' produced by Peter Miles (The King Blues, Martin Grech) is out 1st April 2011 on The Kaleidoscope Label and available through specialist outlets such as Rough Trade as well as the online stores. -
