About me:
My name is Andrea Anderson and I am a writer, photographer, artist, administrator and webmistress for
Butterfly Garden News
(an interactive site where I encourage people to share in the wisdom and knowledge of nature and natural living).
Enter My Secret Garden
I am a 42 year old woman who is committed to becoming healthier, wealthier and wiser with age. I was born with Spina Biffida and my parents and I were told by doctors I would never make it past the age of 20. At the age of 42, I must admit, I don't listen to doctors much anymore. Instead, I have learned to listen to my body, mind and spirit for the answers to my questions in and of life. I may not always make the best decisions according to other people's standards but I have done my best to try to make the wisest decisions possible according to my resources at any given time and I am constantly striving towards improving myself and my situation on a daily basis. As a result, I live in a beautiful place with an incredible (all be it unconventional) family and have a firm grasp on my purpose in life and I can honestly say I am truly happy with the decisions I have made (even the not so good ones) because they have lead me here to this place where I believe I truly need to be. If you dare to ask, I will tell you, I am glad to be alive and I have every intention to live my life to the fullest.
One of the main reasons I am still alive is because of my best friend and partner of nearly twenty years, David. He reminds me daily not only to listen to my body, mind and spirit but to respond to my being in a positive way and he has taught me the benefits of living in accordance with nature rather than against it.
I believe, one of the reasons the world is in such a state of crisis is because we have forgotten to live in accordance with the time tested ways of nature. In fact, society has become so removed from the natural state of things that very few of us have even touched or have been touched by nature. Where once we had our feet by firmly planted in the earth, we now barely connect with it. Think about it, when was the last time you touched the earth? Not the pavement, not the linoleum, not the rug but the EARTH. The decisions we make, from the food we eat to the houses we build and even the clothes we wear, seem to have driven us further and further away from our natural state of being, disconnecting us from nature and the natural ways. Yet, we still wonder why we find ourselves and our world in constant crisis. Could it be that we have squandered our inheritance and neglected our responsibilities towards keeping it safe for future generations?
My goal is not to change the world. I do not believe any one person can change the world. My goal is simply to change my life and share it with others because I believe the best lessons are taught not in a school's classroom by those who have been educated but in life's classroom by those who have lived.
I understand, we each have our own path to journey upon and I respect each person's path, even if it is one I have chosen not to take it. I understand, what is best for me may not be the best for you. You, and only you, can decide what path you take. However, if our paths cross and we travel together for awhile, I say... Welcome
