Things go boom. Things go crack. There may be a hum, but in the end it's all the same. I'm Stephen Bailey and this is my noise/soundscape project. While I work to construct new pieces, I'll post some older gems as I find them. Enjoy!
'New York' was made using various outtakes from recordings in 2001 of my band Ya-Ne-Zniyoo and (of course) running them thru all sorts of filters and such. Eric Schmitz - Vocals & Acoustic Guitar, Craig Meyer - Bass, Doug Hammond - Drums, Me - Guitar and Producer/Engineer Gabriel Añel who helped gather the outtakes. Also included are some samples from the movie 'Moscow on the Hudson' including a brilliant speech about the evils of NYC (hence the name of the piece). At one point Robin Williams yells the name of the band. It originally appeared on the album 'All Is Not Lost' by my band Ya-Ne-Zniyoo in 2003.
'Mad Robot Silly Question' came from experimenting with creating melodic lines by passing simple sine waves thru an array of oscilators and filters. The result was this odd little piece that sounds like a lone robot desperately trying to argue a point until is horse and out of breath. Sadly, the crowd of other robots he is trying to convince to see things his way finds it all too funny. It originally appeared on the album 'All Is Not Lost' by my band Ya-Ne-Zniyoo in 2003.
'Mental Breakdown ala Mode' was constructed using various samples from several sound effects cds and running them thru all sorts of fun filters on my PC. The name comes from two of the sounds. One is the altered warbling of a bird after the long fade in and the other is the manic music box that plays over a sample of a car wash (perspective: inside the car). These, along with the old lady at the end just conjured up images of an ice cream truck in an asylum. It originally appeared on the EP 'Paid Platycake' by my band Ya-Ne-Zniyoo in 2000.
'The Audi Chicken Cha Cha' was inspired by much beer and constructed using a bunch of cassette tapes from rejected telephone recorders I had 'inherited' from an old job. That is followed by a warped chicken noise jam session over some high-speed jibberish. It ends with a heart-felt chicken ballad and then a mess. It originally appeared on the EP 'Audi Amin and the Mitsubishi Christ Orchestra' by my band Ya-Ne-Zniyoo in 1997.
