About Sarah Mangle Buys a bear (wet nose hero)
"The Little Prince. She is wearing a sailor hat and holding a ukulele that is barely bigger than a toy. (Maybe you remember that, like Peter Pan, The Little Prince is always played by a young woman.) She bounces up and down on the balls of her feet and yells into the microphone like she’s enormously frustrated. Then she’s singing in a voice that’s startling clear and melodic. She’s singing about construction sites and bad ideas and how her mom taught her to write love letters. You start thinking that the last time you saw your dear and far-away friend she was doing karaoke - she jogged on the spot and looked like an adorable pony, and you forgot to tell her." Anna Leventhal, PICKS FROM PLANET VENUS, SHAMELESS MAG BLOG Sarah Mangle, sings, plays the ukulele and keys, and writes curious, queerious campfire songs for city kids. Sarah Mangle's name is a sarah and a verb. it can be used in a sentence. Lately Sarah mangles pop, she's also mangled folk music and experimental stuff with lots of strings and sounds. Her most recent music combines the brilliant euphonium and organ playing genius of Gregory Burton, and gritty original drum styles of Richard Laviolette, with her vocals and uke. Sarah has performed at Sappyfest (2009) in Sackville, The Flaming Film Festival (2007) in Minneapolis, Queerreaction (2007 and 2009) in Montreal, Kazoofest (2008) in Guelph, Barnbash (2007) in Wisconsin. She sets up small tours, (in the United States and Canada) and prefers small venues. Sarah is soon to release her third album this fall, which will surprise and delight you, and sound like a remixed Harold and Maude Soundtrack. Sarah also organizing small festivals (Cold is Not Cool, Put a Scarf On, Guelph, 2009) and concerts, writes zines, illustrates, and works in community radio. She recently moved from Halifax and Montreal to live in Guelph.

Hi Sarah,

North by East West

May 26 2009 11:30 PM

Nice to meet you! NxEW.ca (North by East West) is a group blog covering Canadian music. At this point we have 90 writers covering 27 Canadian cities in 10 provinces and 1 territory. We hope to add many, many more contributors in our ongoing effort to bring together Canada's varied music scenes in one place to share ideas and information, to talk about what's going on locally and what's going on nationally. If you think you might want to contribute read this. Even if you are involved in the 'music business' (musicians, managers, promters etc.,) you are more than welcome. (details here.)

We also have a weekly Mixtape Podcast - if you have music that you'd like to submit for that, get in touch.

Cheers!
Justin

Please check out our new comic "Vampire Bankers" music video. The guy who directed Madonna's first music vid also directed this. We think it's pretty funny.
