Sounds Like
During the course of a Buzzrats show you can expect to hear everything from Pink Floyd-style guitar atmospherics, hard rock, punk, jazz, and grunge, to long group improvisations reminiscent of the Grateful Dead. Even individual songs may go through several stylistic phases, but they never come off as a pastiche. The Buzzrats music is a true merging of spirits, something that exists only because these particular people found one another.

Steve was writing tons of songs & playing solo when he met guitarist Vino & then percussionist Charlie. They began playing as a ragged little trio called the Buzzrats in coffee houses & basement bars around Ann Arbor. Drummer Nate came aboard & then bassist Rob. Blessed with the chance to work with Geoff Streadwick at 40 Oz Studios, they recorded their debut album, A Tiny Speck In A Ruthless Universe, releasing it in 1997, with guitarist Phil Tepley now aboard, too. They started a second album with Geoff, Cartoon Twilight, at 40 Oz & were nearly finished with it when Geoff died. Eventually the group reconvened & finished the album with Geoff’s dear friend Chris Goosman. Cartoon Twilight was released in 1998. Nate left the band to move west in the state & the Buzzrats recorded their third album, John Train, without a regular trap kit drummer & in several different studios, releasing it in 2002. Now blessed with their own studio and with drummer Dan Allen on board, they recorded Wondering Where You Are, releasing it in 2004. Heaven’s Full Of Monkeys, the band’s fifth album, appeared in 2007. Steve is still writing lots of songs & the group is currently in the studio recording a new project, tentatively called Such A Pretty World.
