It was in about 1951 or 1952, when I was around 1 or 2, that my brother was learning to talk. Apparently I was crawling around under the ironing board & when my mother wanted me to go away she said "Buzz off". When my brother heard this, he though she was saying, "Buzz, go away". Soooooo he called me "Baby Buzz" & my father & everyone called me Buzz, since about 1950 & hardly anybody knows the real story.
Buzz Thompson, long time guitarist and vocalist for Ronnie Hawkins and "The Hawks" is heralded as "Canada's Own Mr. Soul" by Ronnie Hawkins, Buzz has recorded and played alongside The Band, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Kris Kristofferson, Jeff Healey, Lonnie Mack and John Sebastian among others. He has also played more recently with "Band" members Garth Hudson and Levon Helm at a tribute to Ronnie Hawkins in 2003. Although well known to musicians in both North America and Europe from touring with Ronnie. Buzz is yet to become a household name. The intention is to change that. Buzz has used his 35 years... oops! 45 but who's countin' to connect with his soul.
Please visit buzzthompson.ca for more info. There's lots of cool pictures in the gallery too! See you there! Ronnie Quotes: "In my opinion, Buzz is one of the greatest R&B singers alive today" "If I could sing like Buzz Thompson, I'd tell Hollywood to ?!..*!"
