James " Latin" Clark, film director, actor, producer and audio engineer, has been a mainstay in the New York underground hip-hop scene for over a decade. He originated as an MC/producer, frequenting open mic dwellings in the late 1990's and ripping stages along side some of today's most revered conscious hip hop artists such as Immortal Technique, La Bruja and T-Weaponz.
Bit by the acting bug, Latin slowly began to trade the recording studio for the sound stage. In 2003, a chance meeting with producer/director Edwin Decena led to a few small acting roles and finally to the lead role of "Los", a trash-talking drug dealer, in the award winning film "Transformations." The movie debuted at the HBO New York International Film Festival in 2005 and earned the Best Narrative Feature award at 5th Annual h2o International Hip Hop Odessy Film Festival, that same year.
Latin went on to star in other independent short films including "Suicide Blogs," "Death by Nightclub" and "Color."
He quickly realized that his contribution to the urban culture was better served through film, rather than music. His underline passion to communicate the characteristics and stories of his community eventually morphed from sound, to video and finally film.
"I am a huge comic book head and as a kid spent hours and hours drawing, so everything to me is very visual and colorful, and professionally who I admire..... the work of Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón, they are incredible" shares Latin.
2008 has proven to be a formidable year in Latin's production and directorial career. He has directed 7 music videos and his work has appeared on major networks such as NBC's Mun2, the first-ever Latino youth-oriented cable network to have full subscription to the Nielsen Hispanic Household Index measurement service and is distributed to over 24 million U.S. TV households, and MTV's Latin-focused network MTV3.
Latin's resume has blossomed to include T-Weaponz'a new smash single "XtraOrdinary," Steelo's new club banger "Make up my Mind" and most recently Don Magic Juan's (formerly of Proyecto Uno) new single "Un Million."
This fall Latin will appear in HBO Latino's Miniseries "Habla," an annual program that features prominent Latino entertainers to discuss popular culture and urban issues. Latin proudly joins the 2008 cast, which includes twin television hosts Marissa and Marienella from Univision, Micheal Diaz from the Latino comedy crew "ROOM 28", Xavier from the legendary Menuedo and Nuyorican comedian Jamie Fernandez. Latin has also spread his creative wings into the on air talent genre reporting for "En La Zona" on LaTV a Los Angeles based television network, and more recently on Urban Latino Radio as a member of the show "Late Night Bru" featuring world famous poet La Bruja.
