Books
Jitterbug Perfume, The Lathe of Heaven, just about everything by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, P.N. Elrod, Deepak Chopra, Jacques Vallee, John Keel, Robert Anton Wilson and Ronald Hutton. I read more non-fiction than fiction. Children's and YA fantasy (yes, Harry Potter, I confess, okay?!) is my guilty pleasure.
By Light Unseen Media is an independent press devoted entirely to fiction and non-fiction on the themes of vampires and vampirism.
By Light Unseen http://bylightunseen.net/ The original vampire fact and folklore research site, now in its 10th year online
I've been a student and researcher of vampire folklore, fiction, and fact since I first snuck Montague Summers' The Vampire in Europe and Bram Stoker's Dracula out of the adult stacks of the Spokane Public Library when I was in junior high school. I'm devoted to exploring the deeper meanings of the vampire in fiction and metaphor, and to exposing and debunking the sloppy assumptions, misinformation and nonsense about vampire folklore and fact that too many people take for granted. Yes, I am absolutely maniacal on the topic of vampires. I am, however, completely harmless.
Okay. Mostly harmless.
My novel, Mortal Touch (July, 2007) is the first in The Vampires of New England series. The next volume in the series will be published this spring. By Light Unseen Media will be showcasing the work of other fine authors, starting with Anne Fraser's Gideon Redoak, also slated for release in Spring 2008. I'm tracking down reprint rights for some older works but I'm not talking about those yet. Writers who are interested in pitching a book to me are welcome to check out the Submission Guidelines on By Light Unseen Media's website.
Who I'd like to meet:
Kindred spirits; other writers and authors, especially in the fantasy/science-fiction/horror genre; other independent publishers, especially of genre and niche fiction.
