Lollapalooza & ACL Fest Recap

Lollapalooza & Austin City Limits Music Festival 2007 Recap/update/whateverthehellyouwanttocallit.  It's a little late, but what the hell.

Okay, let me start by saying, WE HAVE A NEW SITE!!!!  We revamped the hell out of it, so go check it out!  http://www.roxwel.com
I'm soooo excited!  I have a section now for all the shows I produce.  All in one little spot!  Click on it, it's called shows.  Okay, okay, click here.

Festival Season is in full swing!  We have three more festivals to go to before I fall over and die!  I was told I can't die just yet.  Anyhoo...

*************************************************************

First up, we flew to Chigaco for Lollapalooza and had a bean! And we found our new favorite breakfast place EVER!  I think it was called yolk, right across from grant park.  So breakfalicious!  Muse is the best thing I've ever seen live, fortunately, it rained enough before their set that cleared a path for us to actually see.  Trying to watch Pearl Jam was impossible.  It was my first time to use a port o potty that had antibacterial soap next to the hole filled with shit.  Ironic or retarded?  Discuss.

Okay, now down to business.  This year we hooked up with 101x and got some great interviews from Juliette & the Licks (ummm, yeah, make sure to watch that one, Juliette was a fruitcake, and in a good way!), Muse, Spoon, Kings of Leon, Dax Riggs, Blue October, Silverchair, Cold War Kids, Interpol, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and The Black Angels.

You can check all of them out HERE.

A month later, we paid for rock star parking and walked to the Austin City Limits Music Festival, which was also a blast!  It wasn't at hot as last year because it rained so much for us this summer, which was more than awesome for us.  There was an  RV fire during Pete Yorn's set, we got to see other festival circuit people that we only get to see once a year, bjork's speaker caught fire and aside from that she is definitely in the fruitcake category, Toby thinks Paolo Nutini has a soup lip, and Sweet Leaf Tea is the best tea EVER (get the green tea and mint, it's the best of all of them).

Okay, down to business once again, catch these interviews with the 101x jocks:  Manchester Orchestra, Butch Walker, Pete Yorn, Ice Cream Man, Blue October, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Ben Kweller, and John Ralston.

You can check all of them out HERE.

*************************************************************

Now on to Roxwel business.  We got artist commentaries from these artists:
Tokyo Police Club, John Ralston, Adam Hood, The little Ones, Midlake, Blue October, Mr. North, Kevin Michael,  The Cribs, Sherwood, Smoosh, Aqueduct, the Graduate, and The Postmarks.

You can find those HERE.

Ahhh, the fun of festivals.  Okay, it's full of sweat, bottled water, and port-o-potties, now new and improved with antibacterial soap next to the pissed on toilet paper.  VOMIT!

Alright, that's my update for now, hope you enjoy the vids.  Oh, and our latest original show UnCut just released a new webisode with Queens of the Stone Age.  This time around, we filmed QOTSA doing a live acoustic set for 20 lucky 101x weiners.  They performed "3s & 7s", "Suture Up Your Future", "Make It Wit Chu", and an Elliott Smith cover of "Christian Brothers".

Find all that good junk here.

That's all for now, did I mention I'm over this whole festival thing?  It's not as glamorous in the media area as you may think.  We're stuck there, we can't go anywhere else.  They definitely won't let us in the artist area where they have port-o-bathroom on wheels with real toilets that flush and AIR CONDITIONING so your tooshy doesn't sweat while it's in a vulnerable position in an unfamiliar area.  Anyways, where was I?  Oh yeah, we're stuck there, we can't go anywhere else.  It's a lot of "hurry up and wait" as Toby calls it.  You don't really get a chance to see music because we are waiting for our interviews to come in and possibly catch ones that aren't scheduled.  Well, we're usually there from 11am to about 7pm, stuck in the media area, waiting.  By the time we are let out and put all of our gear somewhere safe, there is only time for the last band of the evening, and it's usually so packed, we can't get out in time to get a good spot to even see or hear for that matter.  Then we have to leave earlier than the huge ass crowd so we can get the hell out with our gear in one piece and get out of the park in under an hour!  (oh, and we were stuck with the hotel at the airport in Chicago, which is an HOUR train ride to and and from Grant Park, that sucked! The 20 minute cab ride ruled but it was also a $40 cab ride ONE WAY).  So yeah, not so glamorous.  Maybe I'm just getting older and bitter.  I mean seriously, at this point, playing chess with someone's grandpa while sipping tea and listening to cd's sounds like a much better time.

We should swap jobs. No, wait a minute you're...!!!

Nice to see there is just one place i can see your work now, though this is going to severly cut my surfing time at work :-)

Re: soap. At least you get some!!! I would recommend a full body bag for festival toilets. Hmm, i'm gonna patent that idea, leave it alone y'all.

Finally, don't die; would miss you terribly :-(
