The sole album The United States of America was released by Columbia Records in 1968. It's the greatest achievement of an era in which rock was first explored as an avant-garde medium.
A definitive reissue CD is available from Sundazed with 8 previously unissued tracks, the 2 bonus tracks from the 1987 Edsel reissue, remastered sound, and revealing new commentary from both Joseph Byrd and Dorothy Moskowitz.
Following the dissolution of Byrd and Moskowitz's collaboration, a dramatically inferior yet still mostly brilliant successor to the album was issued by Columbia 1969: Joseph Byrd and the Field Hippies The American Metaphysical Circus. "You Can Never Come Down" is a track of USA-caliber that appears on this album and in a different version as a bonus track on the Sundazed reissue, demonstrating the compositional continuity between these projects for Byrd despite the different cast of collaborators.
After decades of absence from the global music media, Joseph Byrd was finally brought back into the public sphere by Italian journalist Beppe Colli's 2004 interview.

who ever runs this site: mr.soul loves you. stick to your usoa, on vinyl! (fuck the posers who think they run those "states" (fuck the idea: "state", "people", etc....))
I've been a fan since the 80s, when a friend made me a tape of you guys on one side, and the Silver Apples on the other! I just bought the vinyl-reissue from Sundazed, and have been spinning it all the time; The sound is amazing! Dorothy is one of the best singers of the 60s...your recognition is long overdue!
I LOVE The Untited States of America's music ever so!! ;) It feels so good! Now here's a little buzz buzzy garden fizz to sprinkle on your pretty page!
Thanks so much for the add... I saw the USofA back in the late 60's., wore out 3 vinyls of their album and site them as a major influence on my own music and lyrics.
Thanks for the kinds words about my music! I've put up another effort of mine if you'd like to give it a listen and took your advice and made my page more readable. Your music is a huge influence to me. All the best always...
