BYRON LENAIR WAS BORN IN FT. WAYNE, INDIANA, AND BEGAN PLAYING GUITAR IN HIS PARENT’S CHURCH. AS A YOUNG CHILD HE WAS HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY ARTISTS LIKE ANDRE CROUCH, THE WINANS AND THE CLARK SISTERS, AS WELL AS, EARTH, WIND & FIRE, STEVIE WONDER, THE ISLEY BROTHERS AND THE COMMODORES. FROM THESE GREATS HE LEARNED THE ART OF STRONG STORYTELLING THROUGH LYRIC AND MELODY.
A VERSATILE AND EXPRESSIVE GUITARIST, BYRON FIRST BECAME INTERESTED IN HIS INSTRUMENT AFTER HEARING SOME GUEST MUSICIANS PLAYING AT CHURCH. HE RECEIVED HIS FIRST GUITAR WHILE STILL IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND IMMEDIATELY BEGAN SPENDING HOURS IN FRONT OF THE STEREO LEARNING THE RIFFS OF GEORGE BENSON, EARL KLUGH, CARLOS SANTANA AND AL MCKAY. HE CONTINUED TO ADVANCE HIS WRITING AND PLAYING SKILLS IN HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE PLAYING IN SEVERAL GROUPS INCLUDING THE POPULAR EBONY MAJESTIC CHOIR FROM INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY.
AFTER COLLEGE BYRON FORMED A GROUP CALLED ‘SHARELOVE’ AND LATER JOINED A CHRISTIAN ROCK BAND CALLED ‘DAYSTAR’ WHERE HE INSTANTLY BECAME HOOKED ON THE ROCK AND ROLL SOUNDS OF PANTERA AND JIMI HENDRIX. HOWEVER HE NEVER PURSUED COMMERCIAL SUCCESS UNTIL HE CO-PRODUCED, CO-WROTE AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCED 1997’S ‘WHAT KIND OF CHILD?’, A RAP ALBUM FEATURING HIS BROTHER POPPY. THIS EFFORT GARNERED REGIONAL ACCLAIM AND LED TO MANY YEARS OF PRODUCING LOCAL HIP HOP AND R&B ARTISTS IN THE UPPER MIDWEST.
WITH YEARS OF PRODUCTION AND WRITING EXPERIENCE UNDER HIS BELT, BYRON HAS COMPLETED AN ASTOUNDING SOLO POP JAZZ GUITAR PROJECT WONDERFULLY TITLED ‘MAS MOJADA’ (MORE WET). IT IS A MASTERPIECE THAT SHOWCASES HIS SKILLS AS A GUITARIST, COMPOSER, ARRANGER, LYRICIST, VOCALIST AND PRODUCER.
