Singer/songwriter Byron Walls got his start in the 1960s San Francisco folk trio, "The Travellers" opening for Phyllis Diller at the Purple Onion and Mort Sahl at the Hungry i. Following a stint in the Army, Byron returned to San Francisco where he completed a Masters Degree in music at San Francisco State while teaching guitar (Marty Ballin of the Jefferson Airplane was one of his students). Upon graduation he teamed with Howard Albertson and returned to the Purple Onion as part of the comedy/singing duo, "Byron and Howard" where they appeared for the better part of four years. The duo also appeared regularly at the Ice House in Pasadena and the Red Onion in Aspen, as well as the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas opening for Rosemary Clooney.
In 1969 Byron toured as a member of the "New Christy Minstrels." In 1973 toured with Glenn Yarbrough and the Limeliters. The group recorded six of his songs that year.
As a Warner Brothers Music staff songwriter in the mid-70s, Byron had 13 songs recorded by name artists including Emmy Lou Harris (Precious Love), Andy Williams (The Poem), Glenn Yarbrough (Grandma's letter, Having Each Other Around), Burl Ives (She's My Wife), Ronnie Milsap (Two Hearts), and The Kendalls (Precious Love).
