Quiet but animated conversation; friends talking, listening to music, reading the newspaper (remember those?), going clickity-clack on lap top computers and keeping time to espresso/cappucino machine.
By the Book owners Chris and Ellen Todd have convert4ed their popular gathering spot into a full-time restaurant/coffee house with entertainment.
The coffee house hosts a twice-monthly Open Mic Showcase on the first and third Thursday of each month, and in the summer of 2009 started a popular series of outdoor shows on the sidewalk.
Of course, By the Book continues to sell delicious coffee and tea drinks and smoothies, but has begun offering a variety of gourmet foods for breakfast and lunch (and dinner on open mike nights). You'll find delicious soups, sandwiches and salads, not to mention quiche and pizza. All food is prepared on site and nothing's prepackaged!
The Todds also operate By the Scoop, the custard shop next door to By the Book, and serve up those popular sweet treats.
Plenty of comfortable seating is available on both levels of By the Book and the free WIFI makes it a popular spot to study, work or just browse the Web.
Stay tuned for more changes and improvements as the Todds refine their coffee house venture. One thing won't change -- the calm ambience and welcoming Midwestern atmosphere.
I played at "By the book." coffeehouse/ bookstore several months ago and can hardly wait to go back and play again. Everyone there is so nice. My friends also said that they had a great time. Thanks everybody:)
I just posted a new song on my player. Just in case you want to go give it a listen. I hope all is well with you. Things are definitely jumping arond here.
By the way, if you think you may be interested in having these folks (Mike, Sherry, and Victor) come perform sometime, drop me a note and I can get you their info. They are here North of the river....
Keep in touch and let me know what you are up to when you can. I'll do the same.
Thanks for adding me! I come into your cozy coffee house a few times a week to study for school. I really enjoy the yogurt cups you have!! My favorite snack... As for the custard shop next door..I'm gonna have to try that Yum.
