What is Cabrio? We’re a five piece indie rock group from Plano, TX. We’re really just a group of regular guys who’s passion is to write and play music for others to enjoy.
Cabrio is the brainchild of Josh Harrison and Curtis Barnett. The band was formed in summer of 2005 as an acoustic project. The duo would play local coffee bars for about a year until they began work on their first EP. “Words Can’t Say”, a six track EP was recorded from a home studio. Soon after completion of the EP, the two stuffed their own CD’s and made copies available at their shows. Shortly after the EP was released, the response from fans led the two teens to begin searching for a full band arrangement.
Josh (Lead Vocals/Acoustic Guitar) and Curtis(Lead Guitar) joined forces with three new members recently left from a previous project. Nick Carlough (Rhythm Guitar), Trent Holloway (Bass) and Michael Flores (Drums) would round out the band. It was apparent in the first rehearsal that these teens were meant to play music together. Over the next year, Cabrio would continue to write and showcase original music on a monthly basis in the Dallas metroplex. In May 2007, the five some would release the first full band EP entitled “On the Shoulders of Giants”. The seven track EP was recorded at January Sound Studio and was released on iTunes shortly thereafter.
“On the Shoulders of Giants” was more than well received by fans in the DFW area, within the first few months, the first run of 500 CD’s was completely depleted. Over the next year, Cabrio would continue to play on a regular basis and begun work on writing tracks for a new album. In May of 2008, the band learned that their bassist Trent Holloway would be leaving in a short few months for Navy basic training. Likewise, college was approaching for the other band members. A decision was made that Cabrio would not cease to exist because of this separation. Late that summer, Cabrio began recording tracks for the new album which is slated to release in January 2010.
Will Colburn (Bass) would be added to the band in May 2009 to fill the void left by the departure of Trent. With no plans of stopping in the near future, the band is continues to forge on and is approaching the release of a new album. This album features a previously unheard side of the band. The new songs are much more mature, fuller sounding, and feature new instruments and techniques not heard in the first two EPs.
