Cabuya es buen alma de ciudad. Es sabor a monte y litoral.
Son 9 musicos que se encuentran en la meseta Santandereana jalando el chivo; tejiendo en el canon gritos en maraca de pena. Gaitas guerreras que recuerdan con sonidos comtemporaneos la vida en la esquina.
Cabuya lleva 5 años en la Manga Bucara, provincia de Soto, creando espacios para la ciudad con diversas propuestas que combinan la musica con montajes escenicos sonorous; manteniendo una Mirada en un permanente laboratorio que nos exija y nos haga preparar nuevos platos para una sociedad avida de alimento espiritual.
Cabuya es un laboratorio de sonidos, un espacio de experimentacion permanente compuesto por nueve musicos que entremezclan sus propias busquedas y desarrollan asi una creacion colectiva dinamica.
Las experiencias esteticas y artisticas de los integrantes de la banda conjugan las practicas de los folclores afroamericano y amerindio, las musicas urbanas, el teatro, el audiovisual. los estudios academicos, la danza y la investigacion; a partir de estas influencias se plantean la puesta en escena y la propuesta sonora.
El primer concierto de cabuya fue el 2 de febrero del ano 2000 en Bucaramanga; ciudad donde reside el grupo.
Este ano 2005 publican su primer CD, Comienza el garroteo y la propuesta en escena que ha sido disenada para emprender la nueva etapa de trabajo del grupo, en la cual musicos y objetos plantean imagenes y acciones dentro del desarrollo del concierto; y se conjugan con la escenografia en una especie de obra plastica.
El grupo acaba de terminar la edicion de su primer Video del tema El billetico. El video fue dirigido por EDSON VELANDIA(guitarrista, cantante y compositor del grupo) y fue grabado en la ciudad de Bucaramanga los dias 13 y 14 de Diciembre de 2004.
