Chicana/o literature (particularly newly published but historical stuff is great too); American Indian literature (I've read a lot of Plains Lit. but need to read more Pueblo -- I'd love suggestions.); creative writing (what I got into this gig to actually do -- poetry, fiction, journaling); furniture making (I've still got a lot to learn from my pa); printmaking (shout out to Jane, Mary and Jose who keep the workshop going); Freewill Astrology (Rob Brenzy tiene razon a veces); finding time for the miscellaneous art projects around my house (retablos, dolls, portraits, photography, kirigami, etc., etc., etc. Esperanza has it right; arte es vida); enjoying art; .. shopping (not so much an interest as an addiction); unusual tourist destinations (Mystery Spot, Santa Cruz, CA and The Corn Palace, Mitchell, SD are my two most recent visits); backpacking (only after I get my lungs back to NM caliber breathing), camping; inventing new delicious martinis at Martini'z (R.I.P Martini'z.), and live music/dancing (someone in NM should hurry up and get married already -- I want to do some tradish dancing). Ooh, which reminds me, I like pow wowing tambien (esp. fancy dancers! yummm.).

I've read so much New Mexico Lit this summer that my eyeballs are going on strike. I can't list them all here but here are some of my faves:
Old Las Vegas: Hispanic Memories from the New Mexico Meadowlands, edited by Nasario Garcia. My Life in San Juan Pueblo by Esther Martinez. La Diabla a Pie: Women's Tales from the New Mexico WPA, edited by Tey Diana Rebolledo and Maria Teresa Marquez. A Santo for Pasquelita by Ann Nolan Clark.
Check out the literary map on the NM State Historian's Website. I'm a content developer for the map. I'm not responsible for the crowded, tiny interface or the misapplication of MLA citation style. (Believe me, I've used my best writing teacher explanations but no one is listening!)

Great quote! It's true - women risk their lives to give birth. It's ironic that while birth is an act of strength, it is what renders us "weak. " It would have been nice to be pinned with a shiny medal as I was wheeled out of the delivery room! :)
jaja. Well, honestly, I genuinely like her. Well, I don't necessarily agree with all of her personal views, but I really like how much of a bitch she is and how she doesn't back down when it comes to debating and interviewing people, she's not a kiss-ass, and I like her honesty and how she'll say some real f***ed up things but sticks to em'.
