In the summer of 2008, long time friends and collaborators Thom Witherow (Ginger Hustlers, Chemical Yoga, Third Stone) and Matt Hallam (Tea and Pistol Review,
King Combine, Third Stone,) decided it was time to huddle in Nashville, TN with songs, lots of guitars, and their voices to hear what boiled to the surface.
Hallam and Witherow started their first band together in their hometown in Northwest Ohio some twenty years ago. Over the past two decades they have continued to hone their craft and occassionally have collaborated in projects where time and geography have allowed. Even in those early days there seemed to be a chemistry with the songs they wrote and performed. A certain kindred musical alchemy as rich as the black soil in the land where they were raised.
For the past 7 years Witherow had been writing, recording and performing solo and with a band he co-founded, Ginger Hustlers, based out of Eugene, OR. Playing shows from the Northern Rockies south to Mexico, he picked up a loyal
following along the way. Two albums were released with Ginger Hustlers in which he co-produced and engineered.
Meanwhile, Hallam, with his original and incredibly versatile acumen on guitar, had moved to Nashville, TN to work directly in the music industry. He has played and recorded with various talented line ups, including the Tea and Pistol Review. A band of caliber musicians and friends from around the country who came together to cut a record in Sun Studios in Memphis, TN.
In early 2008 both musicians found themselves at mutual artistic crossroads. The two began discussing the possibilities of an original project based out of Nashville. They had the songs and the will to play them. The only question left was to see if the chemistry was still there. A few months later Witherow moved from Oregon to Tennessee and that question was put to rest immediately.
They began arranging songs and recording in July 08 and since then have performed live from Columbus, Ohio to Athens, Georgia. This music is the culmination of twenty years of life and a couple friends who seek to chronicle it in the best way they know how: Songs. Stay tuned....
