Influences
Musicians/Bands:
Eva Cassidy, Incubus, Snow Patrol, Foo Fighters, Goo Goo Dolls, Yellowcard, +44, Jump Little Children, BB King, Box Car Racer, 3 Doors Down, Damien Rice, Bic Runga, The Fray, Sarah McLachlan, Chuck Berry, Heather Nova, U2, Feeder, The Shins, Bob Dylan, Lifehouse, The Smashing Pumpkins
Other stuff:
Poetry's a pretty big one - Yevgeny Yevtushenko, Ted Hughes, Sylvia Plath, Yeats, Robert Frost and just random poems of genius! Scenes/lines/moments in films - some of my fave films for this kinda inspiration are - Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, All the Real Girls, Pan's Labyrinth, anything by Miyazaki. The world - and things happening out here/there which can move you or make you mad! Family and friends and personal experiences are probably the biggest influence there is though.
Click on the play button on the left of each track to hear the full studio version, or click the track name to go to 7Digital.com. Click the button again to stop the song before listening to another, otherwise they overlap and it just sounds scary. Enjoy :)
Until we get some CD's produced, the only way to have a copy of the studio recordings is to purchase them by following the link below. It only cost 79p per track, and we need your support to help us keep gigging :)
Cage of Stars are a acoustic duo from Northamptonshire. The band formed in early 2007, and have been writing songs non-stop ever since. Aiming to create music that sounds 'real' and not manufactured, moving but unsentimental, the pair use a fusion of styles inspired by their diverse and sometimes seemingly contrary musical backgrounds to produce work that is more than simply the sum of their influences. Keep watching to witness their continually evolving sound.
Ok, so that's the third person blurb. I feel kinda weird writing as if I'm not me, so I thought I would also write a personal intro to our page. It's true what I say above about trying to write music that sounds 'real', because being truthful (or true to myself) is really important to both me and phil in our songs. We write mainly in a really instinctive way (just 'if it feels right, then it's right) so I wouldn't say we were influenced much by fads in music, just the genuine classy stuff that stays with you. Anyway, hope you enjoy
Helen xx
