ABOUT
Girl Jam, in celebration of women's month, features female artists through communion of one another's passions and interests. Girl jams allow women to practice their art and to embrace artistic achievements of all forms.
ATTENTION DANCERS:
This is a dance workshop recognizing women in Jazz influenced dances. Women of all ages and levels are welcome. CA Girl Jam was the first of it's kind, held in Los Angeles in 2005 in order to inspire and challenge females to push themselves, and expand their dance reportaire. The dance workshops focus on Jazz dances from 1900-2007, namely Tap, Charleston, Black Bottom, Lindy Hop, and Hip-Hop. All dances were created through each other and I consider myself as a preservationist to keeping these social dances alive. In 2006 I had a legendary female of Jazz Dance history, Dr. Jeni LeGon who worked with Bill Robinson in the 1930's. My goal every year is to bring about an awareness of Jazz History from the perspective of women, and encourage females to let their true spirits come out on the dance floor. One day we will all come together in recognizing each other's role in American Vernacular Music and Dance.

this weekend was so amazing...i feel so priveledged to have been a part of it! especially the last class...corina with the chaleston tip and peppa with the b-girl stylee...so swingin'fresh. =>
Awesome weekend! I can't wait until next year. Actually, we need more of this...collaborations between women from different backgrounds to further promote our art and passion.
