Caine est un duo né en 2004, fruit de la rencontre entre Bastià (guitares, claviers, boîtes à rythmes, arrangements) et Pep (chant, basse, claviers). A l’époque ce sont juste deux collègues profs qui s’entendent bien, jusqu’au jour où ils jouent ensemble pour la fête de fin d’année, reprenant notamment des morceaux de Police…l’entente est immédiate et deux albums verront le jour, gravés et distribués autour d’eux de façon assez informelle mais qui leur vaudront une interview et quelques diffusions de morceaux sur France Bleu Roussillon. Les influences y sont diverses : plutôt pop-rock mais avec une petite pointe de jazz non négligeable (funky à l’occasion). Avec le temps la guitare acoustique se fait plus présente et la bossa nova s’autorise quelques incursions. Pep et Bastià ont écouté tant d’artistes différents, de musiques différentes, qu’il leur est toujours fastidieux de définir leur « style »… Le nom du groupe fait référence à Michael Caine, acteur britannique que Pep apprécie particulièrement. Après une chronique élogieuse dans la revue « Keyboards recording », les 2 compères passent la vitesse supérieure et fondent courant 2007 le label « Companys music » (clin d’ --il à leurs origines catalanes et à leur amitié indéfectible). Le pressage de « Panoramique » est achevé au début de l’été 2007. Synthèse des meilleurs morceaux de leurs deux albums précédents, « Panoramique » a fait l’objet d’un important travail de remixage et de réécriture de certains textes en français. L’alternance de textes français-anglais devient l’une des marques de fabrique du duo.
Caine was created in 2004 by two French secondary school teachers; Pep Guillem (vocals, bass, additional keyboards) and Bastià (guitars, programming, arrangements). After jamming together (mainly The Police covers) at the end of term party of their school they decided to collaborate and exchange their compositions. Very enthusiastic about each other's work they recorded two cd albums ("Autumn" and "Of stone and sand"), in a very informal way...and handed them out to a couple of friends, relatives and fellow teachers. The name of a the duet is a reference to Michael Caine, a British actor particularly appreciated by Pep. All the lyrics were written in English at the time. Some songs were played occasionally on the local radio. They also got a very good critic in the French edition of the magazine "Keyboards recording". In 2007 Pep (the English teacher) and Bastià (the maths teacher) decided to take "the great plunge": they began re-writing some of their lyrics in French, re-mixed their tracks, founded their own label "Companys music" (a mixing of Catalan and English; it means "friends'music") and the result is their 17 track cd "Panoramique" .They sing in English and French. Their style might be difficult to define... they like so many kinds of music...at times jazzy or bossa...some other times rock or delicate pop...but they always tend to focus on soft atmospheres, something quite gentle.
El duo Caine nacio en 2004 del encuentro de Pep (voz, bajo, teclas) y Bastià (guitarras, teclas, programacion). Cuando tocaron cançones de The police por la fiesta del colegio de Perpinya donde ensenaban, los dos profesores decidieron "ir un poquito mas lejos". Sucedieron 2 cd's de composiciones personales cantadas en inglès que distribuyeron de manera muy informal. Una cronica muy positiva de la revista "Keyboards recording" (sobre la habilidad de la produccion de Bastià y la suavidad de las canciones) los dio ganas de fundar su associacion Companys music (en referencia a su amistad y sus origines catalanes). Pep re-escribio una gran parte de sus letras en françes. (Le gusta mucho cantar en dos idiomas y ya tiene las ganas de escribir algunas letras en castellano y catalan.) Al mismo tiempo Bastià hizo un nuevo mix de muchas caciones. El cd "panoramique" es el resultado de este trabajo comun de readaptacion de las mejores canciones de los dos primeros albums. Anadieron 2 canciones ineditas. Las influencias son bastante variopintadas: pop-rock con un poquito de jazz, o de bossa nova tambien. Poco a poco la guitarra flamenca hizo mes incursiones. Al duo Caine no le gusta ser "etiquetado" demasiado facilmente! El nombre Caine es un
homenaje al actor britanico Michael
