About me:
The Cairns Campus Student Association was started approx 1986 when we were still located out at the tafe in a back room somewhere, It was started by Joy Jenkins who still has ties to us today. We relocated to the Cairns campus when it was opened in 1987. The Cairns Campus of James Cook University is located 15 kilometres NNW of the Cairns CBD, in the suburb of Smithfield. It was opened in 1987. We represent students and the cairns campus student association is not only guided by students its council is made up of students. The Student Association is independent of the University and works to provide you with services, representation and non-academic activities. The services we offer reflect the nature of student life and operate to meet your needs while on campus. The Association represents students at a number of different levels: to the University, to the community, and to the Government - both on a local basis, and state-wide. One of the most important reasons the Association exists is to represent you in any disputes and discussions that arise within the University. The Student Association ensures the University considers students’ needs when making important decisions.
