Ganey makes his home in Lake Charles, LA where he was born and raised. He lives there with his wife, Heather and their children, Xander and Rayne, along with two German shepherds, Dixie and Shadeaux. A graduate of McNeese State University, Ganey holds a Master's of Education degree and works as an educator in an alternate school for middle and high school troubled students.
Music became a part of Ganey's life at a very young age. His great-grandfather, Andrew Doucet, played accordion for him in the afternoons after a long day of work in his blacksmith shop. Located in the southwest corner of Louisiana, Lake Charles has been overshadowed by the abundance of music in Lafayette, but its proximity to Texas has allowed Ganey access to a multitude of musical styles. While Cajun music has had the largest impact on his life, Ganey feels connected to everything from the single-note string bending of B.B. King and stylized accordion playing of Clifton Chenier to the bold, but gentle voice of Don Williams and fiddles and steel guitars found in Country and Texas Swing music.
During the last fifteen years, or so, Ganey has had the opportunity to play with some of the most recognized names in Cajun music. An accomplished musician, Ganey plays accordion, guitar and enough mandolin to get by, but it was as a bass player that he earned his living for a number of years. The first official working band he joined was The Basin Brothers. Band leader, Al Berard, was going through some personnel changes and asked Ganey to fill in on bass for a tour he had lined up. By the end of the tour, Berard asked him to stay on. Shortly after that, female accordionist, Sheryl Cormier, asked Berard for some help at a festival in Rhode Island and told him to bring his bass player. It was there that Ganey ran into friend, Christine Balfa, and her new husband, Dirk Powell. After talking it over with Berard, they asked Ganey to come on board as bass player in their band, Balfa Toujours. Realizing that The Basin Brothers were downsizing their touring schedule, and Balfa Toujours' confirmed bookings for the coming year were double from the previous year, he accepted. Including performances with The Basin Brothers and Sheryl Cormier, Ganey has performed traditional Cajun music in 43 of the United States, Canada, Mexico, England, Ireland, Scotland and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
