About me:
.. Ben Huff is a filmmaker of many talents based in the Los Angeles area. A recent graduate of the film/video Master's program at California Institute of the Arts, Ben is currently promoting his thesis film NEVER MIND THE FENCES while working as a freelance sound recordist, designer, editor and mixer. As a lifelong artist and musician, he spent the better part of the past decade making experimental video shorts and sound pieces, earning his BFA at Alfred University in New York state before moving to California. Being a musician, Ben was naturally attracted to the role that sound plays in film and video. While studying at CalArts, he put himself on a personalized academic track of film sound in the film school, while also branching into areas of sonic study in the art and music schools. After also working as a sound transfer technician and recording engineer for the school, Ben left CalArts as a semi-professional sound editor/designer and recording engineer. Since graduating he has been a production sound mixer/boom operator & sound editor/designer/mixer on over a dozen student and independent films, while simultaneously working in various professional sound studios.
Ben's most recent personal project was his thesis and first feature film, NEVER MIND THE FENCES, a documentary about the DIY, all-ages, underground music scene in Wichita, Kansas. He plans to continue to make more documentary films, though is currently preoccupied with his sound work on other filmmakers' films, striving to make a name for himself in the industry.
Aside from filmmaking, music also continues to be a big part of Ben's life. He currently is involved with a few collaborative projects, most notably a hip-hop group called Decibel which is due to release its first CD by the end of summer 2008.
