    Caleb J. Ross's Interests
GeneralPraise for Caleb Ross's novel, Stranger Will:

"...I'm always looking for the scene, the character, the story I haven't read a thousand times over and over. Something with the spark of originality and the courage to be different. When I see that something new, it's always a joy. And, thanks to Caleb Ross and his STRANGER WILL, I had those moments of joy repeatedly throughout the book. This is an original—unlike anything you've ever read before. "
--Rob Roberge, author of More Than They Could Chew and Drive

"More nihilistic than a chainsaw-wielding midget who wants to be the tallest man on Earth."
--Bradley Sands, author of It Came From Below the Belt and editor of Bust Down the Door and Eat All the Chickens

Praise for Caleb Ross's novel, Torch:

“A stirring novel, this extraordinary work plays upon the reader's willingness to suspend disbelief and turns it on its ear...Covering ground similar to the works of Sherman Alexie and Chuck Palahniuk, this is an author worth keeping an eye on.”
--Publishers Weekly

"Brilliant...one of the most amazing fiction concepts I've ever read."
--Rayo Casablanca, author of 6 Sick Hipsters

Praise for Caleb Ross:

“[Caleb] is gifted, in that his characters exhibit grotesqueries that somehow seem encoded with the same flaws of the world they inhabit, as if they are not constructs, but victims: the fruits of a tree growing upside down.”
--Jason Kane, Oxyfication.net

About me:

Between working and working I read, write, and sleep with concerning intimacy. My bookshelves are full; my head isn’t, so I’ve still got stuff to do.

I currently have two novels making “the rounds” with editors. “The rounds” is elitist speak for “making me cross my fingers and pray every time I check my email or phone messages.”

Visit my official page at www.calebjross.com for more information about me than you would ever need. Unless you are a stalker, in which case, PM me for whatever fears and work schedules you are looking for.

Don't worry about existing in different places. There's a great introduction to Lanark by Alasdair Gray from a guy called... William Boyd, about how readers develop unique histories with the books they read. To quote a bit;

"It may not be immediately apparent at the time of reading, but the person you were when you read the book the place you were where you read the book, your state of mind while you read it, your personal situation (happy, frustrated, depressed, bored) and so on - all these factors, and others, make the simple experience of reading a book a far more complex and multi-layered affair than might be thought.
Moreover, the reading of a memorable book somehow insinuates itself into the tangled skein of personal history that is the reader's autobiography: the book leaves a mark on that page of your life - leaves a trace - one way or another."

It's longer of course, but I think out of context that there makes a fair note. The greatest book in the world will mean shit to you if you're not in the mood to read it. I'd readily accept Rubicon Beach not being the greatest novel in the world, but also that to me it was a fine fucking novel and a great example of unpretentious honesty in a world where most honesty is seen as pretentious. I don't even like that word, pretentious. I dug RB most highly, in essence.

As for The Wasp Factory. Nope, Wasp as in wasps. Not White Anglo-Saxon Protestants. It's a British novel and that's more an American phrase. I guess it belongs to a certain gothic tradition; lonely and messed up kid has these weird divination rituals, one of which involves the execution of a wasp in various ways, preformed by his Wasp Factory. It's not bad, actually, as much as I've read. Should finish it tomorrow.

I just started reading The Wasp Factory. It's quite British in that weary sense of symbolism. Two characters standing on a beach and the waves slowly rising between them before someone shouts. Shouldn't be a long read anyway. Then I'm straight on to Murakami's After Dark.

How're you doing though Caleb? What're you tucking into now?
