OUR STORY
In the middle of the California desert, about 2 hours from the coast, you’ll find twin cities straddling the border of California and Mexico. The city on the Mexican side is called Mexicali; the one on the California side is called Calexico.
Everything about the place is a mix of California and Mexico – especially its food. Equal parts Mexican taqueria and American Barbecue Pit, Calexico’s cuisine is down-to-earth and full of flavor, familiar and unique at the same time.
When we came to New York we were blown away by the food. But for all its great restaurants, we couldn’t find anything that quite matched the flavors of Calexico. So we took it upon ourselves to introduce NYC to Calexico style cooking.
We make everything from scratch with the freshest ingredients. We hope you like it.
Thanks,
THE CALEXICO BROTHERS
Jesse, Brian and David Vendley

If you find yourself in Soho, famished (or even slightly hungry) after a long morning of shopping and walking, go to the corner of WOOSTER and PRINCE. Right outside the Camper store, you will find the Vendleys. Three brothers - chill NY boys who have spent enough time in Cali to say that their burritos and tacos are HELLA good (which they are) will be there playing hip-hop and serving up some delicious, authentic "Carne Asada, skirt steak marinated in a citrus-y, spicy sauce and grilled over an open flame...smoky and sweet pulled pork tacos...shrimp tacos...with homemade salsas." Calexico was a runner-up for best street cart in NY. Get that.
Chowhound.com
If you want good cheap Mexican food, go to the cart - called "Calexico" - on the corner of Wooster St. and Prince St. (in front of the Camper shoe store). I had the chicken soft tacos and grilled corn and both were FRESH and very flavorful. Go there - especially if you are feeling nostalgic or craving California style tacos… I'm not kidding when I tell you that these were 4 star tacos. Heavenly.
Eater.com
Eater operatives were spotted at the street cart of Vendy finalists Calexico on the corner of Wooster and Prince in Soho last week. Verdict: La Esquina, eat your heart out.

...Next we hit Calexico, the West Village taco stand started by three young and blond Southern California men. And when I say Southern, I mean Southern, where Cali hits Mexico, hence their name. And holy shit was this stuff good.
Their Carne Asada was one of the best tacos I’ve ever had. The meat was high quality and tender, and drizzled with a fresh and limey green crème fraiche type sauce. And the tortillas were moist and homemade. The other Calexico offering was a pulled pork taco with pickled onions. Again, tender, well-seasoned meat with a pickle-y bite and a fresh tortilla.
The Porchop Express.com
Calexico makes everything (save the corn tortillas) from scratch, but their specialty is carne asada. This is a flavorful, lime-marinated “knock you in your teeth” grilled beef. Their pulled pork is nearly as tasty, a smoky, tender, sweet/spicy/tangy mix of southern and southwestern styles. The plates were extremely generous to boot: corn tortillas loaded with delicious meats, served with a refreshing slaw and grilled cobs of corn.
