It's all done with smoke and mirrors. Actually, we play anywhere from just Raquel and me, to as many folks as we can get together (Caliche con Train Wreck). These days we've been playing with Ryen from Golden Boots and Charles and Haji from Puppet Works more than anyone, and really having fun with it. Eric Baldoni, Eric Royer, and Jesus Contreras are pretty much life-long members one way or another--but they don't live here anymore. Christine, come back if you ever have the time! Many others have passed through our gates--and the gates are still unlocked.
Influences
GOOSE CREEK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA!!! Doug Kershaw, Freddy Fender, Charles Ives, Jeannie C. Riley, and Eudora Welty. And Texacala Jones. JC goes without saying.
Sounds Like
Gothpell. Think Gary Glitter opens for Mahalia Jackson, while Rik Agnew plays for change in the parking lot. Actually, we don't sound at all like that. Did you know that Mark Mothersbaugh used to play campfire gospel and singalong songs for Covenant Church Bible Camp? You may not find that on the Internet, but it's true. I know, because I went to a Covenant Church college. Well...maybe we sound like Mark Mothersbaugh somewhere right in the middle when he was making that transition from Kum Bah Yah to Mongoloid.
Really, we're kind of a mix of the Carter Family meets the Texas Tornadoes meets Jeannie C. Riley meets Hot Tuna meets Mahalia Jackson meets the Happy Goodmans meets Charles Ives. Yeah...I think that sums it up. With a little Stamps Baxter, Sacred Harp, and Goosecreek Symphony Orchestra and some Ruben Ramos thrown in.
hi, i hope you are doing well on your travels. i really want to get the new cd. we need to do a barely bipedal reunion show... i wonder if i could do that. here is a song i am recording soon. i love that first song. peace, nancy
Stop the war
Stop all the war please Now there are so many problems as it is
I'm up all night wondering when the big one will hit
How many more civilians die I see the blood I can't shut it out but I am frozen with fear
Stop all the war please Now there are so many problems as it is
I pretend it's just my mental illness I turn on the tv I watch the Simpsons and laugh a little while
But the screaming gets severe always in the background there sometimes at the center of my being
Stop all the war please Now there are so many problems as it is
It is the age of dismemberment because we don't remember except for this queasy dread and flashes of a 3-D movie
of the blood blood blood
they starve they freeze they burn they die of disease
while I just live with a craving for happiness and I get by
Stop all the war please Now there are so many problems as it is
This is my home too this is your home anywhere invaded on this planet is a room in your home
Stop all the war please Now there are so many problems as it is
