Sometime in the mid 80's an intrepid band of former punk rockers led by Gary Lupico started meeting up on Sunday afternoons to prove to themselves that the country music they had been listening to for years was the same as the music they had been stuffing down the throat of uninterested audiences in Cleveland, Ohio. Having fooled themselves with whiskey and lies that this was indeed the case, California Speedbag was formed.
"The Bag" slogged through most of the dives in Cleveland and some in NYC. Noted for playing too loud, too fast and too long as well as for violations of most public morals California Speedbag released their album "The Fire of Misery" in 2002. Gary moved to Dripping Springs, Texas in 2003, there he went to his reward in 2004.
The remaining members of the band, led by Brian Cox and aided and abbeted by G. S Harper, seeking to continue playing the songs and telling the stories reconvene on a regular basis. Watch for them at an unsavory establishment near you.
