CALISTA KAZUKO ROBERTSON is an up-and-coming British Singer/Songwriter with a cocktail of stunning looks and unique style… expect big things from this artist in 2009!
With both parents being professional Classical musicians [Father Professor Paul Robertson, founder leader of the Medici String Quartet], Calista was lucky enough to be surrounded by music from a young age. Starting on the violin at the mere age of 3(!), Calista went on to receive her Grade 8 Piano and Singing, both with honours.
Calista graduated from the Junior Academy, Royal Academy of Music last summer where she specialised in Composition under David Knotts. During this period she won many prestigious competitions, such as the SPNM Young Composer’s Award, where her symphonic work was performed by a professional orchestra at LSO St Luke’s. Miss Robertson’s special talent also gained her a full scholarship to Dartington International Summer School’s Film Music Course under Miguel Mera and a full scholarship to Dartington's 2007 Choral Writing Course under Cecilia McDowall.
Calista has managed to fuse these skills in Classical composition and cross them over to her song writing, the result being a refreshing, sophisticated sound. Her versatile voice has proven highly popular and with such reviews as… “A TEN OUT OF TEN FOR SELLABILITY!” – Simon May [Eastender’s theme tune] and “A STAR IN THE MAKING…” – Mikhail Kazakevich [International piano competition winner] Calista undoubtedly has a bright and exciting musical future to further explore.
However, this special artist's talents do not stop here! Recently being awarded 3 A’s at A Level in Maths, Music and English, Calista was an academic and music scholar at St Catherine’s School, Bramley.
In January Calista was chosen to take part in Big Brother Celebrity Hijack, a twist on the popular reality TV show alongside “…12 of Britain’s most talented 18-21 year olds”. Following this, Calista is releasing her first single on the 20th October alongside the incredible Crazy Cousinz. The track, BONGO JAM is an infectious funkyhouse track that has been tearing up the dancefloors for months. The young artist is also working on her debut solo album with fellow talented musicians, producers, composers and arrangers; This music will hear more classically inspired “classy pop” tracks focusing on the piano and voice.
Her songs are guaranteed to wow a crowd with her thought-provoking lyrics, advanced piano and vocal ability and scintillating sense of harmony. Her ever popular sharp-tongued, acoustic song MISS FANNY HILL recently reached the finals of the 2008 UK Songwriting Contest, beating around 6 000 other entries. She is also currently reading Music at King’s College London and specialising in piano at the Royal Academy of Music under Professor Colin Stone.
